LVCC - Somerset v Durham

Maybe an option to go with three frontline seamers then three spin bowling allrounders?

Stoneman
Jennings
Borth
Richardson
Mustard+
Colly*
Breese
Pringle
Arshad
Harrison
Rushworth

Wood for Pringle would be my choice from that list, Pringle just doesn't offer anything different bowling wise than Breese, whereas Woody has a bit extra pace over the other 3 seamers.

No Breese in the squad

Keaton Jennings 1
Mark Stoneman 23
Scott Borthwick 16
Michael Richardson 18
Paul Collingwood 5 *
Phil Mustard 19 +
Usman Arshad 78
Mark Wood 33
Chris Rushworth 22
Jamie Harrison 13
Gavin Main 20
Ryan Pringle 17
Gordon Muchall 24

If Breese isnt included I'm thinking Pringle will definately make his debut - surely they cant go to Somerset with only one spin option.

Could see this being a 500 plays 480 draw to be honest.

Looking at that squad I'd take your arm off if you offered me a draw. Can't for the life of me understand why Breese wouldn't be atleast in the squad. Pringle simply has to play. Either way it's a f***ing long tail.

Disappointed about Stokes too. I knar it wasn't realistic but after he played yesterday, albeit club cricket, I thought they'd take him down there as part of the squad at the very least. Give Somerset something to mull over in the build up.

On another note, who on earth is Gavin Main? Don't think i've even seen him play for the 2nd's.

Pringle can bat, I know he hasn't shown a lot in the limited over games he's played so far but he is capable of occupying the crease and scoring runs. I wouldn't be afraid of giving Muchy a game either, a lot of the bad feeling towards him on here is because he had a really bad time at 3 a couple of seasons ago, he's much better than that, and deserves a go simply because he's the best of whats available outside the regular starting eleven. I've watched the seconds as well as the firsts for as long as Muchys been at the club, so I can say without doubt that's he's the best of the rest at this time.

At the moment I can't see much between them bowling wise, but as I said in the post above I think Buckley has been injured so not quite into the swing of things yet. They obviously think a lot of Buckley as his inclusion in the 1st team squad last year shows, but he's been another bowler that's suffered from injury.

a pure batsman light i agree but not strictly a long tail as pringle, arshad, wood, harrison can all bat pretty decent
Agree - Them four @ 7-10 isnt too bad, it's not as good as these no-mark counties who have Yasir Arafat batting no 10 etc but i've seen Durham teams with Simon Brown, James Boiling or Melvyn Betts batting No8 before so...

harrison could be batting 10 whilst onions is out and he was avaeraging about 150 a few weeks back ;)

That's the problem though, he's the ONLY 'rest' really. He's the only batsman left in the squad who has played a Championship game and isn't injured. Which granted isn't his fault at all, but I think it says something about the managements view of him that over the last couple of seasons that the club have chosen to go with untried youthful players over him. What's more, he's had far too many chances.

If he gets the nod tomorrow I truly hope he scores bagfulls of runs and makes me eat my words. If he doesn't get picked, despite the current injury plight, then perhaps it's a final indicator that his time as a First Class cricketer is up......

Given that our first choice attack will probably be Hastings, Rushy, Onions & Wood we have Arshad, Harrison & numerous allrounders/spin options to back these up.

In comparison our batting only has Gordon Muchall as backup, it is alarming. Seemingly no decent prospects coming through who are pure batsmen. Everytime I see a 2nd XI card Singh is getting nowt, Clark the same.

Would you have kept Smith over Muchall?

No brainer for me. But something strange happened with Will Smith imo... Rumours of retirement then he went to Hants. I can only think he was on huge money here & didnt want to take a big reduction. Either that or Collingwood was hell bent on ridding the dressing room of other influential people (Cook, Benks, Former captain Smith?)

Smiths record is no better than Muchalls in the CC, similar amount of games, Muchy has more 1st class runs at only 2 less than Smiths average, plus Muchys one day averages are better. Not a lot between them but Smithy is looked upon as a world beater while Muchy gets stick, strange that.
