I used to live down that way early seventies, there was loads about, The Clarendon, ship inn, and bridge hotel, used to be a couple hung about outside Liverpool house in high st, Mowbray park museum steps.I lived in The garths 30 years ago and never saw one.
Yet Sunderland and Newcastle have never had a red light district, well not in living memory anyway. Obviously working girls are here but they must be more discreet!
when dwight yorke lived in the posh flats next to the sage\baltic in gateshead, werent all the neighbours russian\eastern europe "workers"?
That'll have been mad Sandra, they had her there for 3 or 4 days going through her, came back with wads of notes and thought she was gonna be rich, till she got to Dawson & Sandersons where they changed it for about £40 or summat, poor mare!I heard a story of a couple of prozzies who frequented the Clarendon being hired by a ship full of Russian sailors and not being able to walk properly the following day, they'd been ragged that much.
....and you like to portray yourself as a man of tasteWe always used to strive round past the industrial estate just beside the train station on the way to The Arena to skwy at the scantily clad tarts like.
You're joking. He's an ale hating lager drinker.....and you like to portray yourself as a man of taste![]()

There is no "red light" district and I have never seen a prossie in Sunderland. I am 52.
No idea of anywhere in the proper North East that has prossies.
Sland did have a red light area...down the east end when I was a nipper. It's strange how many of the towns and cities in Yorkshire and Lancashire have red light districts where women are touting on the streets, and it's there just down the road in Middlesbrough.
