What a great bowler. By 1985 he was very skilful and controlled but ive seen some youtube stuff when he was younger and he was absolutely rapid.

Yup, terrific bowler and a gentleman to boot.

Not bad with a bat either.
Liked his jelly baby sweets in his pocket as well I understand. Terrific player who I could watch all day. He never seemed tired at the end of the day -I am sure he was - but you knew he had tried his hardest every ball.

You calling sir Richard a cheat?

No, of course not, things like that were common place when I played and just accepted as part of the game. A bit of Lipsil on the inside of the pocket, a coin to raise the seam etc. Fairy liquid was the best to keep the shine. All stopped now thankfully. It was hard enough to face a good bowler without that sort of thing. Ever try to distract a batsman just before the ball was delivered? Illegal but was still done.

I was given the information by an umpire who stood in the first class game.

Sir Richard was still a brilliant all-rounder.
