One of the nicest sights I ever saw in cricket was him wandering the boundary holding a little lads hand ,he looked about 8 feet tall with the young un looking up at him . Proper cricket .Haha! Aye he's class, real gentle giant of a bloke!
Ritchie Richardson was at Gateshead Fell for a few years then went to Burnmoor.[DOUBLEPOST=1393019709][/DOUBLEPOST]Played in a team that included Jimmy Adams, Jimmy Daley and Ashley Thorpe. Poor Thorpey struggled to get a bat as the two Jimmy's used to score a hundred apiece.Former Player will have loads of memories of this sort of era.
Cairns was at Whitburn mid to late 70's. Zak Khan was accepted as being one of the most horrible fuckers going.
I thought Richie Richardson was at Gateshead Fell but my memory fades.
Andy Glasgow was a top lad who played at South Hylton I think.
Moody broke the coast league run record I think when he was at the Lyons.
Wasim Akram played at Burnopfield I think and didn't Madan Lal play somewhere.
Murton (I think) had a cracking lad called Paul Henhsall (Aussie) play for them
Wes was denisons brother. Couldnt hit either of them!Anyone remember the late Wesley Thomas who played for Blaydon? He seemed quite rapid when they played down Horden in a cup game
Yes. RL is my bruv.Early to mid 80's. Same time as your brother (RL) if you are who I think you are. I was captain of the under 18's when he was our wickie. We won the cup that year, same year Ryhope robbed us of the league. Also played for the coast League U18's together around that time.[DOUBLEPOST=1391037452][/DOUBLEPOST]
Yes really good lad, loved a night out on the sauce down the town. I think he used to crash in the clubhouse to save his money.
Yes. RL is my bruv.
We seem to think you are JL?
JL?????Yes. RL is my bruv.
We seem to think you are JL?
Might be slightly before your time. I think I joined the club in his last few years there.JL?????
Des Haynes at Blackhall and Guisborough ?
Along with Richie Richardson possibly the best player?
The best I played against had to be Derek Parry at Horden. Many years of excellent service and consistently put in match winning performances.
The best I played with had to be Jimmy Adams. Consistently performed year after year. Was rated No 1 batsmen in the world whilst at Eppleton.
They were both lovely humble people who mixed really well with everyone and put lots of time in developing their clubs junior players. I'd love it if clubs would go back to paying one player as their professional and bring some of the worlds top players back into local cricket. You players playing now don't know what you're missing in playing with and against top Test Players. You also make life long friendships with these players. Standards have definitely gone backwards in my opinion since these players played. The rot started when the Durham Coast League banned overseas professionals from playing in their league.
