Been chatting to my mate Syd this morning, (he is the drayman, originally from Guisborough, but moved to Stockton as a lad and lived there for a few years, before joining the army).

Anyway, we were talking about derbies and his derby for him, (If Boro get promoted), will be us.

For some of us from South Durham/North Yorks it is, but i guess that South Tyneside/Northumberland lads it is not.

Anyway, i told Syd that his derby was probably Hull, to which he sort of agreed, (I did some relief work in Hull once).

Do you class Boro as being the derby?...for me though it is always the mags, even though i live nearer Boro.

Fed up with the roaring chubby persona.
He's a pile of shite as well by the way.
Do you have delusions of yourself as novelist or writer of some sort who creates characters that in your tedious brain have depth or interest?
You need help spug

Listen the North East don't want The smoggies, Yorkshire doesn't want the dump either. So to be fair why don't we just frac the hell out of it an sink the god forbidden bastard place

Can remember Ayresome being a really frightening place to go. Boxing day 1973 springs to mind and a 2-1 loss, memories of skinheads iirc.

Depends where you live in region. If your a Sunderland fan from south Durham way maybe aye because you might know boro fans etc. Yeah I look forward to it but in a way I look forward to playing Leeds.

Couldn't care if we never played them again.

Shite ground and horrific area.

& for a so called derby I'm sure that FA Cup replay down there they only had 26k and we had 3700 of them.....

It is a derby for Sunderland IMHO. The schizophrenic/denial derby, a curious phenomenon...

Normal conduct is as follows:

For few days before - Sunlun fans go on the record repeatedly - not a derby, like playing any other team, nowt in it, etc

Day of match - usually tense as fuck all day in sunderland/boro. They cannot drink 'at ease' in Sunderland (and vice versa' when at their place. For duration of game, full-throated chants of 'we hate boro' 'shag your kids', etc'. They reciprocate with their own ditties. Quite frequently there is chew between the two sets of fans outside at some point.

After game - Sunlun fans declare it as 'just like playing any other team', nothing game

Repeat process for next fixture.

I've been in the home end for a Tees-Wear derby at ayresome. Not frightened at all (kept me gob shut though), and the away end put up a good show. Pay on the turnstile would suggest it was not even really a derby for them.
