aye but bairstow hasn't had the gloves test or odi in how long? has he kept at all in a serious match in the last year or so? [honest question, he may have done for yorkshire] too risky IMO plus he doesn't look a better bat than prior anyway so i see it as a bit redundant. maybe just to shake things up a bit and give prior a kick in the right direction, if the series is over then chuck him in for a game or two but i'd see that as motivation for prior rather than an actual changing of the guard[DOUBLEPOST=1387148579][/DOUBLEPOST]

agree with most of that i agree but the ones i've left i disagree somewhat

root - i think has the quality i think it's just a case of toughening up and getting the experience. think ideally he would have stopped down at 6 for longer but needs must.
stokes - also ideally he would have been brought in at 8 or so but now he's at 6 i don't shuffling him around is smart or fair
his bowling maybe isn't good enough to be in the side at 8 but his batting isn't quite ready for 6 but if we wan't him in the side [which i think we do] we need to persevere with it longer
prior - having a bad series i agree but i don't think bairstow is an improvement, maybe a break will do him good though.
swann - don't agree at all. still our best spinner and one of our best fielders..his batting ability seems to have evaporated though
bresnan - i don't think his role has been defined well enough, he needs to have line and length drilled into him and be the run miser allowing stokes and broad to attack with real pace. decent with the bat which we need desperatly.
onions - not sure i agree about the pasting - nobody seems to have any pace all of a sudden - if you can't have pace you need accuracy and bunny has this. maybe trying to have lots of quicks was just plain wrong and we should have accepted the lack of pace in return for having someone who can bowl accurately allday long?

If Melbourne is a dead rubber then I would expect to see one or more of Finn, Ballance, Robson, Bairstow and Buttler.

Not for me. The senior players who have got us in this mess should play and be made to face the humiliation coming their way.

I think its unfair to put in any more young players at this stage when the Aussies are brimming with confidence. Leave most of them free of Ashes battle scars and blood them next summer.

The current side have to face the music

i agree. i think bringing in a youngster at this stage could be the ruining of them. we know stokes and we know his temperament, we all knew he would stand up and be counted rather than wilt in adversity [not sure any of us thought he would do SO well mind] but we don't know the others.

bairstow for example, if he came in and made some of the balls ups prior has made he may never be the same keeper again.

finn for broad is the only change i would make. probably bunny for anderson if he was there. you can only assume all the tall identikit bowlers have proven themselves shite if they haven't been picked for perth.

i guess another option is bring ballance in for broad, play stokes at 8 and admit we will never be able to bowl them out and just try and bat for draws :lol::lol: :oops::oops:

was talknig to my marra about this yesterday, would bairstow have been doing that much glove work over the last few years? i don't see it. he wont have played much for his county for a while and played as a batsman for england so will have been desperate to improve his batting to get a shot in the team.

as we saw yesterday wicketkeeper fuck ups can make or break a team, and more than just losing the match it will do bairstow's confidence no good at all to be coming in behind the stumps in a thrashing if he starts f***ing things up

Cook - will come good, not sure he is a captain
Carberry - not sure he has done a lot wrong to be honest, clearly not one for the future. Worth sticking with for me.

cook is not a captain. Looks out of his depth in the job. Class batsman though. Unfortunately I have no f***ing idea who I would make captain.

Well only bell only has 2 more runs than him this series, so he must have done something well conisdering Bells form this year. I like him he trys to score unlike root who just seems to occupy the crease.
Just because he's 33 doesn't me he can't continue to play he seems incredibly fit and rogers is 36 for the aussies and he's only just getting his test chance since the summer.

He's been unlucky with a couple of his dismissals as well imo.

Suppose it depends whether England want to compete in these last two tests, or develop the team for the future. Personally I'd go:

Cook
Root
Bell
Pietersen
Ballance
Bairstow (wk)
Stokes
Bresnen
Broad/Rankin
Finn
Panesar

Anderson needs a rest, Swann looks shot and Carberry was always a short term pick. Prior needs to be dropped but wouldn't necessarily call it the end of his career. Would prefer Buttler as keeper but Bairstow is the only alternative on tour. These two tests are Pietersen's last chance to show he actually gives a fuck.....
 
Another here who dosen't understand the problem with Carberry. Sure he's 33 but he dosen't play like it, he's very fit. It's been a very poor series but one dropped catch aside he has been one of our best players by some distance, he's solid all round but looks to score which is something England desperatley need from an opener as we can't just leave it to 3 and 4 to get quick runs all the time. Too often our openers go having done little except stay in for little return, which means there is pressure on the middle to really have to go some in order for us to get a lead quick enough to take 22 wickets.

I think he's comfortably superior to his peers at present. Bloodding young players is all well and good but the batting order is going to have real problems if it's having to compensate for players who simplay aren't good enough at present.

He has looked nowt better than average, the ineptitude of the rest of the batsmen has served to make him look better. As for positive shot playing, his strike rate is low 30's, much like the oft maligned Compton or Geoff Boycott.[DOUBLEPOST=1387364710][/DOUBLEPOST]

If Gary Ballance and Steven Finn are not in the Melbourne Test team there is something sadly,sadly wrong.
