Have to give Root credit after slating him for much of this and previous series. He's batted very well and looked pretty comfortable. These two need to still be batting at the close, though. Hopefully I'll wake up to that miracle!

back from ikea.... the extra bonus being i missed watching the pietersen and bell wickets...
we've got ourselves out today. the bowling has been OK but nothing too special. felt sorry for root, deserved a ton but that's how it works when you're on the back foot nothing seems to go for you.

Hopefully Prior takes something out of this, would be good to see him reach 50 in preparation for the next test. They showed last night that they don't have to be bullied by Johnson's pace, but they also still showed there's some rank-average batsmen in the team.
It makes a change to see us showing some balls with the bat this time round, we've been far to quick to roll over up until now and after this performance, even if we still go on to lose we've shown the Aussie bowlers that we can bat against them. Frustrating that 3 of our wickets were lost to daft shots, but it's encouraging after the shite we've had to put up with so far.

Sums the Aussies up. They're a pretty ordinary team, don't care what anyone says. We've beaten far better Aussie teams than this. We are continually gifting them wickets.
At least we showed a bit fight today but we're heading to Perth 2 down. The bell is tolling.
This could be the most unnecessary Ashes hammering ever. It's one thing to lose 5-0 to Ponting, Warne, McGrath, Langer, Hayden etc but to lose heavily to this fairly ordinary bunch will be galling.
TBH, South Africa must be watching this laughing their tits off at both of us. They are far superior to either England or Australia ATM.
