Glad for Stokes.

England now need to get rid of the over 30's brigade I feel.

Needed them in the trenches on this tour but they just haven't performed.
 

Just caught up.

That was actually a decent day for England, just a shame that it's meaningless because of what's gone before. Cook, Carberry and Bell's dismissals are avoidable but Root, Pietersen and Stokes all played well. Keep them out on the field for as long as possible tomorrow, then head to Perth.

Johnson can suck my plums like, completely unneccessary and hopefully a sign of cracking. Picking on the wrong bloke with Stokes as well, he's more likely to stick the nut on him than crumble.
 
Johnson is a f***ing pudding. We all know hes a confidence player and we've seen what hes like when hes rattled. So far in this series we've allowed him to be so comfortable that its brought confidence and wickets. When hes expensive conceding runs he starts spraying wides all over the place. Our batsmen are so out of touch they're scared of his pace.

Today was the first time they've not looked scared of him and he had a go at Anderson, a go at the umpire and then Stokes too. Hopefully the performances of Root, Prior and Pietersen can give a bit of confidence to the team that Johnson isn't Curtley f***ing Ambrose and they don't need to be scared.

The performances before yesterday were all born from total fear of the pace of Australia's attack, you're bang on.

I mean you're right in that it was a decent day if you're side is bang average. By no other definiton does the term decent describe getting that score, agaisnt a supposedly average attack, on that track, which is getting less friendly to the attack by the second. You only have to look at what Australia have managed to do on a pitch more ammenable to bowling in the same amount of time to see that.[DOUBLEPOST=1386514394][/DOUBLEPOST]

Best way to stop it is to shut them up with your cricket. Sledging only works against weak sides. You never hear of say Alma crying becuase people are having a pop. And as has been said before, plenty England players have a go when they're on top as well. Australia have sadly earned the right to be cocky and England aren't good enough at present to shut them up.

It's decent in comparison to our performances up until now, and has left us in with a chance of saving the game, a very slim chance admittedly, but a chance nonetheless, particularly as there is a chance of rain.

Had we batted as we have done in our previous 3 innings, the match would have been over by 3am and the only discussion we would be having would be whether the Aussies would wrap up the series in Perth.

They batted quite well for two sessions and didn't give much away, 250/6 on day 4 isn't bad and the manner they went about it was right. I'm not really sure what's controversial about stating it was a 'decent' day. It was.[DOUBLEPOST=1386518532][/DOUBLEPOST]

Yes, I agree. If he was better then he'd be better.

A player that stands up against any other English batsman ever and would have been in any World XI pretty much since he started, still not good enough for some. Amazing really.

No, but as captain and opener you should know better than to chase something in the second over when it doesn't need chased and you have two days ahead of you. It was poor batting, all the poorer in the context of his captaincy.
