Australia v England - 2nd Ashes Test, Adelaide

How has it changed though? Our grounds are suited to swing bowlers and there's are flat and bouncy. Only Warne could spin the ball massively and he is/was a legend. Those type of people are rare indeed. I haven't watched any f it unfortunately, I can't over here, no decent streams.

They were down to 5 and somehow, doubled the score from yesterday AND declared :lol:

Our bowlers must be very down, but we do have some good batsmen who can get a draw out of this. If you take 2 days to get 500 you really are asking for a draw if the other team 'dig in' as we should tomorrow. then it all looks very different if we are 250-3.
 
The wheels were always going to come off eventually. The batting hasn't been good enough for over a year and the team have been rescued by the bowlers. It was a tough day for them - you could make the argument that they should've taken Onions but I suspect this is all the management will need to revert to a boring 4th seamer like Bresnan. Unfortunately, Cook's captaincy also has to be looked at as our ethos seems to be very negative and defensive.

And it comes back to the old adage: catches win matches. Completely different game if we'd held those on day 1. It's about time the batsmen did their job tomorrow but I can't help wondering if this is going to be a game decided by the toss.

Welcome to cricket :lol: the game is in favour of the winner of the toss more often than not. We've got fine bowlers, best in my lifetime. Anderson/Broad and Swann can win the game themselves. The batting order though, that's key. I don't think the Aussies are better than us right now. The squad need some jeeing up, that's all. Cook is an excellent player, has been for a while now and still very young. Pietersen is an allor nothing payer but even so, can dig in. It's all the newer players I worry about. I don't watch county cricket.

I do feel a bit sorry for Compton, being dumped for Root and then not brought back in. We need some real steel in our batting and we just don't have it. Anderson is probably knackered with these back to back series. Broad has lost pace and seems to need helpful pitches. Swann getting on. They are a good attack but we need people coming through.
 
Think we're facing a White Wash here, or at least a something nil defeat, unless we manage to reach levels we simply haven't reached since 2011.

Said at the start of the Ashes in the summer that we were complacent and far too confident and cocky in an ability we don't possess, it's clear as day now that's the case. Admire your optimism but you're talking about the sort of feat the team from 2010 would have achieved. There's precious little evidence on form to suggest England could come within 100 of this innings total in any scenario at present let alone under scoreboard pressure and a test down.

There *is* the quality there for England to still compete in theory, but again, on form it's a quality which hasn't shown itself for a long time now. When does form stop being momentary and eclipse quality on paper? It's at least two years that England have failed to show true ability in these sort of circumstances.

Small things making a big difference again. Lost the toss, which is most often vital at this venue (I know I know...). Put down a dolly when Haddin is on single figures and he goes on to make big runs.....

The pitch is still not doing much and if it was the aussies in our position id be confident they could post a big score on their now. (so no reason England shouldnt be able to as well). It will be tough as the Aussies have someone who is bowling very quick and they also have runs to play with so can crowd the bat, but if the batsmen apply themselves there is no reason we cant avoid the follow on. And if we do that I think we will force a draw - and a draw will be like a victory for us.
 
Aussie wickets are hard and bouncy.We take three tall bowlers in Finn,Tremlett and Rankin who because of theirN height can extract extra bounce yet we do not play at least two of them in a Test.BONKERS.

Compton isn't very good. He'd not do any better than Carberry. Broad has improved over the past 18 months. Swann's got a few years left too, spinners can play at a good level into their late 30s. I know we're losing, but let's not pretend that the team is lacking quality. This is basically the same team that went to India last winter and played exceptionally. They're massively under-performing at the minute, but I still have faith in them to turn it around. If we can get any sort of momentum in these next couple of days, it'll be a different series.
 
We like rabbits in the headlights man...Theres no confidence oozing from the team at all.Captain Cook should be leading from the front with aggresive in ya face cricket but his tactics are so negative and he's that much out of form its unbelievable.Watched the first hour last night and saw Clarke and Haddin up and at our bowlers from the first over.Pushing the score on at a quick pace...not scared to charge Monty and whack him back ower his head.Warner does the same when he opens.Said at the end of the Durham test match that theres nowt between these 2 sides and the 3-0 flattered us immensely and that this series would be bloody tight but I still fancied us to win....Not now unfortunately...Can see us getting a reet humping here then its off to Perth where Johnson will rip us a new one ..Of course I hope im wrong and we manage to turn things around but the signs are just not there as far as I can see...We've no confidence and the whole team reeks of panic to me...The Carberry incident at the end when Root almost ran him out just sums us up...The Aussies have us running scared :oops:

Give over, Compton proved his mettle when we were up against it in New Zealand. The bloke was Wisden Cricketer of the year, but for some reason he is not good enough for England and the second division journeyman Carberry is!!?

It's no surprise the wheels are coming off the wagon. We need leaders on the pitch but the whole thing is controlled by Flower from top to bottom.

Being Wisden Cricketer of the year does not mean you should have an automatic place in the side. So Compton had a few decent knocks on those flat New Zealand pitches, but he didn't look great in India and was then poor against New Zealand in the home series. Carberry, for a "second division journeyman", has actually done okay so far. He's really the least of England's worries. Not sure why some are acting like Nick Compton could be some sort of saviour. Yes, he was made a scapegoat of unfairly, but I think you're kidding yourself if you think he'd have made any difference to what's happened in these first 2 tests.
 
England look flat as a fart. Cook is a great player but just doesnt have the personality to be a leader IMHO.

As for the Aussies:

Lehmann is clearly a cocky fucker and has got them in England's face. He clearly makes them feel on top of the world.
Di Venuto - working a bit of batting magic now for the Aussies. He knows the English players inside out as well.
 
Selectors taking too much flak here, we've lost one game.

The batting reserves are bare, they can't have done much more than they have. And as much as the Onions non-selection was a bad one he'd have got flayed all over here too no doubt.

Draw this, win at the WACA. We hasn't won at Lords against them for 75 years til 2009...

They've missed a couple of big chances and, for once, the Aussies have punished them. Get through the tail at Brisbane and take those dolly catches here and we have a completely different series. But we are where we are and the pressure is on tonight, have to still be batting at the close.

I fancy Pietersen for a score here, short square boundaries on a wicket that isn't doing that much.
