1st Ashes Test - Brisbane

I don't fancy Lyon as it goes, seems a bit one paced and no reason why we can't go after him. The way to get Johnson to fail is to get after him as well, won't be long hopefully.

As for today, it was unprofessional to let the last over before lunch happen at all nevermind Trott's poor dismissal. After lunch I reckon it was their minds and the collapse was horrible, but won't happen like that again.

Let's remember that Aussie were lucky to get to 290, a couple of catches a couple of inches either way and they would have been 150 all out as well. Still think England are the better side.

His stats suggest he is a decent bowler mind, and KP made the mistake of thinking he could just go at him last series at times. Bit hard to go after Johnson when he is bowling 90 plus and bouncing it in (on those decks). Add in the fact he doesnt always know where its going himself and it can become a bit tricky.

I agree about the near misses but lets not forget almost half of their wickets fell to not threatening deliveries.

England are the better side, but we seem to collapse as a team to often. The bolwers must be fuming!

Its mental on here during Ashes series. We dominate a day with the ball and some say "this is boring, not a contest", we bat long and hard but not score prolifically and its "this is boring and England are uninspiring to watch", we get skittled showing a lack of discipline with the bat and its "throwing wickets away, useless and finished this lot".

Yesterday was an absolute shocker, it will take a mammoth effort to pull it back but one thing that this England side have shown time and time again is that they can find something extra when it is absolutely needed. Aussies favourites for this test but its not quite curtains yet.

That said, questions need to be asked about our 1st innings performances on tour. It has happened too often to be coincidence

First bit is spot on. Although in fairness to the lad who said its boring and one sided after one session has openly admitted he finds test cricket dull and much prefers limited overs.

Also, when the Aussies give their wickets away its class bowling, when Aussies take wickets its shite batting (Cook got done with a stella ball and some said he was usueless )

The batting performance last night was embarrassing, and the Aussies lead is gonna be massive and we won't have a chance in catching them

We dont have to catch them. We have to ensure we bat like bastards for about 2 days and save the game. Won't happen like, but the rain might help (if it comes)

We still have a chance, but only if we quickly learn how to play against 90 mph bouncers cos quick short stuff will the order of the day again not only in the next innings but the rest of the series.

Be interesting to say how Clarke plays it cos they should have a lead of 500 by the time the third day is out. But if the weather stays away that total is achievable if we do, as we aim to do, and bat out the match.

Quite a few of England's fell to nothing balls as well, I wonder if the pitch might be a bit two paced.

This isn't 90's England, that collapse is an abborration rather than the norm.

Still a chance of a draw, aussies bat all day and get a good 500 lead, meaning england need to bat for 6 sessions, it has been done before by england, a chance for top 6-7 batsmen to show some grit !

Don't think anyone would give a shit if England were knocked over for that score by quality bowling on a difficult wicket. The problem is it was poor batting on a decent wicket and the Aussies were allowed to exploit the same technical weaknesses as last summer. Questions will rightly be raised about our coaching staff if this continues.

Was the same with the Aussies innings tbf. And as Vaughan said, the pace of the bowling from the Aussies was relentless.

Edit: Some people dont see cricket that way either. Its basically all of England wickets are from class bowling, and all opposition wickets is from poor batting. Just look at Harris' dismissal fo Cool for example.
