Ferg on Keano

Roy Keane, speaking to ITV about Sir Alex Ferguson criticising him in his autobiography [1852]: "I'm OK, quite relaxed. I remember having conversations about loyalty when I was at the club and I don't think he knows the meaning of the word.

"To constantly criticise other players that brought him success… I won't be losing any sleep over it.

"I just don't think the manager needs to do it. I don't know how many books he's written now. A lot of these players helped win a lot of trophies. It's just part of modern life. People like to do books and criticise ex-players.

"I'll have to do another book!"

Maybe so but he picked this club off its arse and got us as much positive profile as it's ever had in recent memory. That work has just about been dismantled.

Much of it was dismantled by Keane himself. We've had far too many failing managers in far too short a length of time. Keane was part of that problem in the Premier League.

I still believe Keane, Bruce and O'Neill were all taking us down when we parted company. Pity one of them couldn't have given us real stability.

Thought he was great as our manager.
Also always looks like he wants to kick Adrian Chiles in the spuds so he gets another tick in the box for that alone :)

Although his recruitment policy was pretty scattershot, at the start his premier league recruitment policy seemed to be to sign relatively young, mostly British, players who had looked good in the Championship (Jones, Chopra, Etuhu, Halford, McShane). Things started to go wrong when he couldn't persuade either Baines or Nugent to come, and the policy shifted the next summer to buying older, more established players who weren't likely to have any sell-on value, some of whom had problems at previous clubs (Diouf, Chimbonda, Cisse, Tainio, McCartney, Healy, Malbranque).

Staggering to think he cost the club £10 million+ in transfer fees and wages:eek::eek:

Aye same. It all went a bit wrong at the end but of all the managers I wish he could have seen it through. I went to pretty much every game he was here home and away and it was my favourite time. Barnsley and Sheff wed away will live with me forever...

Ffs - and some people reckon our fans are hard to please!

Forgot all about us signing Healy, apart from McFadden last season he has to be one of our most baffling signings in living memory.[DOUBLEPOST=1382472369][/DOUBLEPOST]

They were brilliant away days to be fair, doesn't mean we want to play them every season though.

I liked Keane. Real shame when he went. No gripes with him going though. I'd be happy too see him come back one day.

I know mate - just having a bit of fun. I'd kill for a good away win right about now, no matter who it's against.

Healy was a canny player. Top scorer for NI wasn't he?

Fuckin love Keano like.

This. Looks like he was the only fucker who had a backbone to stand up to Fergie. Always a legend for me, as a player and for us as manager the season we got promoted, class memories.[DOUBLEPOST=1382473538][/DOUBLEPOST]
Keane was excellent for us. If he had got an experienced number 2 in, he could have taken us further than anyone else has done since. Our progress was stunted by having an inexperienced Chairman and inexperienced Manager at the same time but I'd love to have them both back now.

Exactly right, they were both inexperienced but boy did they have heart to make up for it. Love to have Quinny and Keano back to drag us out of the shite now.

Keane was immense for us, granted it went a little sour when just before he walked but on the whole he was exactly what the club needed.

Loved the way he mentioned about Fergie and what would he have said if the players didn't win him trophies

My two regrets from that season are not being at West Brom and Cardiff. Both were top at the time and we beat both. Cardiff was supposed to be like the 70's and 80's with loads of the 'old lads' coming out of 'retirement' for the day. Not that hooliganism is my thing but it was supposed to be a good day. Must be one of the last times our fans stood anywhere (Peterborough in the cup apart).

Was at both. Cardiff was superb.

That defeat to Bolton in his last game was horrible to witness, think just about everyone knew as soon as they went 3-1 up just before half-time that it would be the last time we'd be seeing Keane in the dugout.

He knew he was going before that game. Did he not leave Ferdinand out and play Chimbonda CH against Kevin Davies, brought Gordon back in when clearly not fit, made puzzling substitutions. I heard Gordon wanted to come off but he wouldn't let him.
He was never going to last after Short began to question things but to act as petulantly is not on.
