McCarthy and Milner..

Other clubs seem to be able to.[DOUBLEPOST=1379278527][/DOUBLEPOST]

Milner and McCarthy.....with the bonus that they can both pass and weigh in with goals and assists.

What has that got to do with us? I'm sure that's a valid excuse when the bank manager comes knocking "but other teams are doing it"

£60+ million over the next 4 years......

£20m debt for 4 of the last 5 years. You can't gamble on the future when no matter who you buy, it's no guarantee to stay up. You still haven't grasped the Premier League rules regarding wage bills either. You seem to just ignore it.

Perry...do you honestly think we've cut the wage bill this summer....i've done a back of fag packet calculation and can't see how we have after bringing 14 players in.

I don't think we'll have cut it by much, I just think it's obvious we couldn't have took it much higher.

For me Barry and Bradley are better defensively, which is the important thing when you are playing only 2 in the middle. You don't need goals and assists from them. The fact they can take the ball off the defenders and complete 90% of their passes is what is needed. Jozy and Fletcher will score enough goals.

So you think letting 9 leave and bringing 14 in reduced the wage bill substantially.....and that's without the fees associated with bringing those 14 in.[DOUBLEPOST=1379280081][/DOUBLEPOST]

A lot of the top clubs have midfields which outscore the striker (most only have one) or a prolific striker like Van Persie.....look at Chelsea....or Spurs...or Arsenal.....hugely talented midfields with lots of goals in them. The game is evolving.

No chance one of them was Milner, we would be looking at 15 million and he would be worth it, unlike the lad from Wigan, can't really say on the other but an 11 million quote for Milner and we would have snapped their hands off.
I'm going to guess....James Morrison

Go on then....1 point on the board...personally i see our next realistically winnable game as Norwich at home on December 21st......here's the upcoming fixture list.....how many points by Christmas.

Liverpool, Man U, Newcastle, Man City, Chelsea and Spurs at home...

WBA, Swansea, Stoke, Hull and Villa away.

thats ridiculous. you seem to think that it is nigh on impossible to win away from home against anyone, and nigh on impossible to win at home against anyone in the top 6... and Newcastle.

I would put money on us winning at least 3 of those games you have listed. In fact, lets say 12 points from those games at a minimum.

We are fucked

Lets pack up now

We are clearly positioning ourselves for next season, the scope to improve the squad with 2 or 3 quality additions will materialise once Seb, Gardner and Vaughan move on. Our turnover will have significantly improved too due to the first year of increased money hitting the books, allowing further scope.
17th or better is the plan...

We had 22 points on board by Christmas day last season and O'Neill was already under serious pressure.[DOUBLEPOST=1379281381][/DOUBLEPOST]

The plan is flawed though mate.....imo.

not the point. You're saying we have no chance of winning a game until then. I'm saying that is ridiculous. Whether or not Di Canio will be under pressure is not important. Maybe he will, maybe he won't. But your ultra-negativity is way over the top. Grow some balls man. We understand you don't like the manager. If he doesn't win a game before Christmas then I'll say it's high time to bring someone else in. But you are fabricating a past, present and future based on what your fortune-teller read in the stains on your sheets. It's beyond boring now.

I think we will be ok, I have seen a lot of poor teams. It is not how we start after all nor will it do anyone any harm to have realistic expectations.
You will be able to throw a blanket over 8th to 17th come May.

Don't see it that way Pepe. I see under 10 points come Christmas and Short having (another) decision to make.

They also have midfielders that can cover going forward. Having Barry and Bradley (2 defensive-minded CMs) in the middle allows Johnson, Gia, Colback, and Celutska to get up the field without always having to worry about the counter. If you only have 2 midfielders and 1 is constantly up in the box, you either leave yourself prone to the counterattack or the backs have to stay home.

For me the attack needs to go through the wings anyways. Jozy is an excellent striker, but he is not good back to the goal. He needs it facing the goal to be successful.

This is what it's all about. Never mind who earns what as long as the total is acceptable.

more like 'This useless bugger is sucking a massive chunk of my wage budget and I can't get rid' imho.

We've never skimped on fees or wages under Short until this season, only stopping due to necessity, and I would be very surprised if we didn't go again next season provided we stay up. It'll be very interesting to see how much the likes of Vaughan, Larsson and Gardner are hoovering each week.

I think we've kept it pretty much the same. We don't need to reduce it substantially though, we just can't go and increase it substantially which is what you want us to do.

Have you never heard of a through ball....granted they're a rarity with our team but other teams have midfielders who can thread a pass through into a striker's path while he's facing goal. it doesn't have to come from the wings.[DOUBLEPOST=1379311838][/DOUBLEPOST]

Where do i suggest that?

What i did suggest was NOT signing 14 squad fillers. The players i did mention....Caulker, Redmond, McCarthy and Milner....seriously, apart from Milner where's the big wages?

Those 4 plus half a dozen of the ones we did sign wouldn't add anything to the wage bill over what we've spent and everyone keeps telling us it's not about transfer fees.

McCarthy and Caulker will be on £35-40k a week and Milner £80k. Add Redmond on roughly £25k and you've got a £9.5m wage bill then you still need half a dozen squad players. The biggest wages we will have paid this summer is Giaccherini on £30k. That's why we were buying from Italy.

Suppose you get what you pay for then......14 players signed for peanuts and not one of the fuckers has contributed significantly.
