McCarthy and Milner..

So you've spent £20m more than we have now and you've added £10m to the wage bill (although you might have got half of it back).

Who is our back up keeper?
Who is our back up right back? (you've sold Gardner)
Who is our back up left back?
We have Kilgallon and Brown as back up centre backs, are you happy with that?
Who is our cover on the left and right wings? (you've sold Larsson, McClean and Elmo)
Our central midfield back up is a crocked Catts, a poor Vaughan and N'Diaye who you don't rate, are you happy with that?
Our back up strikers are Wickham (we all know your opinions on him) and Danny Graham, are you happy with those options?

How many bosmans/loans do we need to sign to fill those holes?

1) Back up keeper...who gives a shit...just find someone like Harper.

2) Brown, Cuellar and Colback can play there.

3) No....i said use the Bosman and loan systems to bring half a dozen squad fillers in.

4) We would have Johnson and Redmond as 1st choices and both can play either side. Given that PDC has played Colback left wing finding someone to slot in (Wickham even) shouldn't be too much of a problem. Don't forget the half dozen squad fillers i suggested.

5) Centre mid back up......EITHER Larsson or Gardner, a loan player (Ki perhaps) and Alfred (who most seem to miss on here)......even Colback IF we sign a LB like Dossena on loan.

6) Back up strikers.....any one (or two) from Fletcher, Altidore, Graham, Wickham and a loanee. Who started up front for us in our only 2 wins under Di Canio?

You count the beans and i'll count the points.......ONE so far.[DOUBLEPOST=1379273645][/DOUBLEPOST]
Mark Noble

£11m....i don't think so.[DOUBLEPOST=1379273779][/DOUBLEPOST]
Wasn't our wage to turnover ratio something like 89% last season anyway? Your TV money every season just goes in that pot. There's no way we could ever have afforded to do something like that. Wages, as ever, are the real problem here.

Perry...do you honestly think we've cut the wage bill this summer....i've done a back of fag packet calculation and can't see how we have after bringing 14 players in.[DOUBLEPOST=1379274135][/DOUBLEPOST]
we are as sad is this numpty for replying .

End of the day you know you have no real argument and resort to stuff like this. You know the team is poor....you know the manager is making mistakes and you can see where we are in the table...but still you can't countenance any alternative because your lack of imagination and unwillingness to stray from the "party line" won't allow you.

we may not have cut the wage bill , but we have a much better overall squad now.

That old chestnut......worse starting X1 than the one which finished 4th bottom though....and surely the whole point of this unprecedented churn was to.......save money on the wage bill.[DOUBLEPOST=1379274794][/DOUBLEPOST]
My thoughts were Joe Allen or Rodwell when I read that instead of Milner, but we'll probably never know.

Definitely not Rodwell...they paid £12-15m for him as a prospect just a year ago.

Joe Allen......hadn't really given him much consideration but i would be surprised.

dunno which stadium you have your seat in but it's not the SOL. our squad when everybody is fit is far superior to last seasons. Our positive attacking is far more pleasing on the eye than last yeras negative shit.
when this team has had a dozen games to gel we will be a match for most teams in the PL and this managers confidence and optimism is a delight to see. If by the time we start to see the potential of this attacking squad we are already in trouble then so be it we will have to trust in paulo's people to get us straight back next year. but that's only the worst scenario when he gets the squad he wants the SOL is gonna be bursting at the seams .

£11m....i don't think so.

why? we were linked with him. How much do you think West Ham would want for him? How much do you think he is worth? How much do you think Di Canio would think he was worth? Does he fit the quotes? "A normal player, good British but £11m is not possible. He's not a top-class footballer."

Is McCarthy worth 12m? Di Canio obviously doesn't think so.

works for me, but I don't care either way - just showing you another possibility. You seem to have decided the evidence points towards Milner. I would love him in our team, but unless a quote comes out confirming it, it's just a theory.

who knows, maybe Henderson...

Ok......you believe that and i'll believe what my eyes and ears are telling me.[DOUBLEPOST=1379275955][/DOUBLEPOST]

I'm not suggesting your opinions are not valid mate.....just can't see Noble being valued at £11m. Who knows who it was.....i'm just guessing myself on Milner based on his and our circumstances. All i've suggested is that he would be a good acquisition for us based on our needs in that area,

aye and I agree, he would be, but I would have been very surprised if Man City had let him go. He played a lot of football for them last year, and impressed when many players didn't. From what I saw anyway. 2 years left on his contract and they bought him for £26m? I would have thought they would want more than £11m and I would have thought bigger teams than us would have been in for him for that price.

City have played him mainly in the "less important" games and also normally on the wing. They've also brought Navas in for the RW slot and have a ridiculous wealth of talent for centre-mid. He is (by their standards) dispensable.....and the £25m fee also included that knacker Ireland valued at about £8m. Given that they lost huge amounts on the likes of Adebayor and Santa Cruz i don't suppose a loss of £5 or 6m would worry them.

It's easy to make throwaway comments like this when it's not your money, that doesn't make it anymore realistic. Why not spend £500m and buy players if that's the case. We'd have more points than beans so I guess everything would be great.

Ok, so we have a few injuries and suspensions over the course of the season. Westwood is out, Fletcher breaks a foot again, Colback is out for a couple of months and Milner is on a 3 match ban.

You're going to have a shit back up keeper in goal that you've never heard of (unless you want to pay Harper his £30k a week wages).

We have no left back so you play Celustka there and Brown at right back (for about 45 minutes until he's injured again) and then Cuellar plays there.

In midfield you have Larsson again and up front you expect Wickham or Graham to score our goals.

We're still fucked because you haven't bought squad members. Your new signings and bosmans loans, have added £10m+ to the wage bill. We're losing £30m a year now instead of £20m. How do you fund that? A loan from the bank probably. What do you offer as collateral? You can't offer future revenue because our wage bill is now higher than allowed by Premier League regulations and they're going to dock us points meaning our top flight status is not secure (as well as the fact that with 4 injuries we're left with a terrible team). So you're probably going to offer the stadium or academy as collateral.

What happens if we still go down? How do you cope with a Premier League wage bill and huge loan when we're in the Championship? The TV money is gone. The attendances are down. No-one wants these players who are on £40k a week but tarnished with relegation.

Would you rather end up like Portsmouth and play in League Two and keep our stadium or like Coventry and be a league higher up but have to play at the Riverside?

Jesus Christ........what a f***ing rant.

Look it's simple...sign players that improve the first X1.

After 4 games aye

Go on then....1 point on the board...personally i see our next realistically winnable game as Norwich at home on December 21st......here's the upcoming fixture list.....how many points by Christmas.

Liverpool, Man U, Newcastle, Man City, Chelsea and Spurs at home...

WBA, Swansea, Stoke, Hull and Villa away.

If we get to buy new CMs, I want Barry and Bradley. I don't think we need overly creative CMs. We need good tacklers, that cover a lot of space, and relieve pressure so that the front 4 can work.

It's even simpler, we can't afford it.

Other clubs seem to be able to.[DOUBLEPOST=1379278527][/DOUBLEPOST]

Milner and McCarthy.....with the bonus that they can both pass and weigh in with goals and assists.
