Doubt it will matter in grand scheme of things but Clarke stiched him up there

Don't want this to be rained off here, want a result, things getting exciting

This.

Although history tells you that the Aussies are right in the box seat here if weather doesn't spoil this, we'd have to bat very well to chase over 300 on a fifth day pitch (assuming we even went for it).

Given how England have been playing with the bat this series, and just in general for the last few years, I think 300 is already going to be tough to get, either by going for it or digging in. England could undoubtedly get that on a good day but it's probably reasonable to gamble they aren't going to have that on a fifth day pitch.

Clarke should go for it after tea, take the element of surprise, the pressure of it all and the highest second innings lead at OT. If someone wins this, whoever it is, will deserve it. If Aus win it though the pressure will be very much on England only one match after they looked home and dry. If they lose it at least it will because they went for the win rather than just holding out for a draw and failure to get the Urn.

There are parallels to Headingley 2001 when we scored over 300 to win on the final day (Butcher's finest hour). The difference there was we had nowt to lose, the series was gone.

Here, we know bat out tomorrow for a draw and we retain the Ashes. We might have very little interest in reaching the target set.

We're poor under pressure and I've not seen an England team bat out anyone under sustained pressure since the last series in Australia. Cook and Trott alone have the capacity to do it but they haven't for a long time.

I reckon we'll be sweating if we get put in an any time from now with that no on the scorebaord to reach.
