Poor weather caused those draws, they were keenly contested.
Their top run scorer in 2006 and 2009.
I quote "the man they see taking over in the middle order in a couple of years"
I am not sure whether this is a compliment or a criticism.
Poor for the Lions in Bangladesh though.
As I said, groomed.
I think I would rather put the series beyond the Aussies before trying someone like Taylor.
You know exactly who I mean. I doubt they would have been so vitriolic in their pursuit of the lad if he hadn't stood in the way of a Yorkshireman (and fellow alumnus in Vaughan's case).
All opinions innit.
The main problem is how you accommodate Compton and Root in the same team. One or other, or Cook, would need to drop down the order.

Compton was pushed aside as a result of Yorkies (Vaughan, SGB) lobbying hard to get both Root and Bairstow in the team. Compton should come in if KP is not fit and Root should drop back down the order.
He won't though, because he's just not good enough.I'd play Taylor but I've seen alot of posts saying he is 30? That isn't old in the slightest in cricket. Could have 5 years at the top at least.
He won't play, but I'd have no problem with Compton playing at 4. Could see him, Cook and Trott help post a massive total and there would be alot more pressure off him.

Another vote for Taylor. Need the right mix of ages and to build experience for the team in 2-3 years once Pieterson is gone and Bel/Trottl on the way (and Bairstow dropped).
Need to do the same with a younger spinner which for me is the biggest issue right now, along with Prior replacement/backup.

Agreed about the spinner, Swanny is 35 now and is probably already starting to think about when to hang up his boots, and unless Root turns out to be a proper all rounder - which I doubt, despite what he's done in the first 2 tests - we'll need a new front line spinner sooner rather than later.
I wouldn't say there was a great hurry to find Prior's replacement, I think there's a few years left in him for now.

AgreedI think Bairstow will be a regular for a good while. (and dont understand the constant criticism). Just needs to sort that shot where he turns the face of bat.
How old is Monty?
Bairstow is a keeper as well, and then buttler could become a test player in the futureAgreed about the spinner, Swanny is 35 now and is probably already starting to think about when to hang up his boots, and unless Root turns out to be a proper all rounder - which I doubt, despite what he's done in the first 2 tests - we'll need a new front line spinner sooner rather than later.

Agreed
3/4 years younger than swanny I think

I am not on glue but I do listen to TMS and often heard Vaughan, and others, saying Compton was not suitable for the opening place - unfairly in my view.
Conspiracy? Not for me to say.

Again not for me to say.
