If they hadn't taken 5 for 8 in 32 balls they would have probably taken this score. These things happen from time to time.

They were playing internationals before we were.
A number 11 scoring a 98* and the highest 10th wicket partnership in the history

and yessssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss unlucky lad but gerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrin

Looking at his record he already had 3 first class 50s, a top score of 71*, and an average over 33, so I suspect he won't be batting 11 again.

Poor lad, just two runs short. I know it`s modern times and not the done thing now, but 30 years or so ago, would the fielder have dropped the ball deliberately to let the lad get his 100 on debut.
After all the damage has been done.
Or is this just a daft Yorkshire thing :)

A Yorkshireman giving away something?! Well I never!

Not daft. Bloody stupid. You are joking aren't you?

All they had to do was give Bradman 4 for his 100 average. And what about Dirk Welham?
Then of course there was bodyline. Aye, they were real softies in the old days.

I feel a bit for the lad not getting his ton, but if he had got it the nerves would have disappeared and he could have got a whole lot more. Just got to bat properly and we can wun this.

It's a quirk of cricket that you can play a fantastic innings, score an unexpected 98 which is a decent score in anybody's book, break 2 records, save your team from almost certain defeat, but people still feel sorry for you and expect you to be disappointed.

If we only had 9 fingers he'd have 118 against his name and be ecstatic.

When I played village cricket in the Thirsk league (many years ago) I was trapped lbw on 49, no one appealed apart from an old boy down at third man, the umpire reluctantly raise his finger and I walked.
The old by came to me at tea and said “thee didn’t deserve half of them runs lad so it was best thee were gone”

Nonetheless I take your point, I may have to take a shower to wash the shame away
