Australia ashes disarray

CHARLIE COROLE

On the back of an abysmal India series Aussie are shaping up for back to back ashes series nicely. The England players must be licking their lips in anticipation safe in the knowledge that this Aussie team are a shadow of the former sides who have battered England.
They have chosen 5 openers suggesting they have not only got a brittle batting line up but they don't know what their top 6 looks like. No doubt Graeme Swann will be delighted that he has several left handers to bowl at.
Brad Haddin can count himself lucky that he is back in the side. Based on his insipid performances in the last two ashes series our bowling unit will be loosing absolutely no sleep at his inclusion, which represents a backward step.
The spin bowling department is threadbare , leaving a huge hole in the side. They appear to be gambling on rushing through the leggie who half of Oz don't want and has no exposure at Test level.
Although they have plenty of promise in the quick bowling department they have no track record in English conditions and there is an over reliance on the stock bowling of Peter Siddle - who wouldn't make our test eleven.
Since they have landed in England they have been rolled for nothing against Pakistan , ex players such as Warne are criticising selection. And their only world class star Clarke still has the back problems that kept him out of Tests in India. England have a perfect opportunity to boss Aussie in the forthcoming one day match and strike an early psychological blow.
Although Aussie never give in this HAS to be the worst touring side in living memory and will not win a test in England.

Maybe so but don't underestimate them. Give them nothing and concentrate at all times. When they are down make sure they don't squirm out of it. They did that for years especially under Waugh.

England aren't good enough to think they're going to do well, and they do, so it will be messier than it should be, always is in such circumstances.

I think if Clarke can get himself fit they will do OK.

Rodgers has been in good form, Cowan can dig in,

A lot will depend on Watson and Warner, but if they are firing they are very dangerous.

I think England will win the series but I think it will be tight.

Articles like that could come back to haunt us. Give them fuck all grind them down and when they beg, kick dirt in their faces.

fair enough. I don't think many realise how tremendous Pattison is if fit. Cracking bowler.

Smash them, smash them into tiny little pieces. We are superior in every department, so everyone get bullish about stamping their faces into the dirt.

None of this 'come back to bite us on the arse' typical Englishness nonesense, get into them and get them slaughtered.

We owe them.

Our Attack is far superior, probably have 5 clearly better Batsmen. Any other side that would be more than enough but we're England, we lack that killer instinct, we'll find some way of making it far more complicated than is necessary.

Nah, you're thinking of England from 10+ years ago, this England team are a cut above. They are ultra professional.

Not as good or as professional they were in 2011 though,as has been proven by their incredibly weak tenure at no 1. Still reckon we're favourites obviously but only because the Australians are average, this is the weakest England team since 2007 I'd say, we'd get a pasting from a good team, and have done in fact in the last year, the gulf between the Saffers and Us shows that we're nothing more than good.

We had the killer instinct when we were over there, you could argue that with Strauss and Colly in the side we had a clearly defined team from 1 to 11 whereas at the moment we have doubts over who bats at 2, 4 (if Pietersen is out) and 6. Provided any doubts about who bats where can be alleviated in the players minds before the series starts, it just then becomes about us playing at our best.

You can guarantee that the Aussies will be up for this. And based on our less than convincing batting performances against New Zealand, England are far from in good shape.

If they are being universally written off, any captain worth his salt will use this to galvanise his troops.

And the last "untried leggie" they brought here made a mess of Gatting's stumps with his first ball in an Ashes test, and tormented us for the rest of a long and illustrious career.

We need to give them nothing.

I agree it would be foolhardy to write them off but they looked a pretty dispirited bunch on Saturday, and that's before they even really start to tour.

This. The standard of test cricket is pretty gash imho

whether people agree or not 20/20 has devalued test cricket. As an example, if Mike Hussey had no 20/20 cricket to play he would be playing in the Ashes and would do a lot better than half the other batters they will wheel out. However, he is getting on, his earning capacity will drop once he retires so wants to earn as much as he can before his body totally gives up on him in the next year or so. I would do exactly the same
