Third Test - NZ v England

This is dreadful... we're being outplayed comfortably.

To be fair, McCullum said he'd have made the same decision.

apparently the groundsman had said that the ball would swing more as the game went on, which is what is happening. the kiwis also talking about how the kookaburra ball swings different to the duke, so the kiwis are using a different seem position

anyway, i really can't believe that on day one when cook walked out to the middle, looked at the pitch and looked at the weather and thought, yeah we'll bowl... looked a great day for batting.

When Cook doesn't score runs and Jimmy doesn't take wickets we look shite. Doesn't help we're missing KP and Swanny like, but these are supposed to be one of the weakest test teams.

Not trying to defend Cook but I think the worry was a drop in pitch.
Looks to me the difference is their bowlers are bowling a much fuller length allowing the ball to swing. I noticed it when Trott came on to bowl and started swinging it about.

yep, mentioned it myself a few times. it seems cultural for us to bowl too short (down here). both aussies and kiwis tend to bowl fuller than we do.

there was a story of one aussie captain (greg chappell?) who took his bowlers out to the middle after the first day of a test when england had bowled (poorly), showed them the red pitch marks from the ball and said to his players they need to bowl at least a metre further up the pitch. which they've been doing since.

He's in his fourth Test match having done brilliantly in the limited overs stuff in the middle of it all - hardly at the Shah or Bopara stage yet!

I just feel if he wants to get a spot in the team for the summer, he needs to show some metal here. Otherwise Ravi might be back
