I've often criticised KP for giving away his wicket too easily-and he does-but he puts you into a match winning position if he dosen't like nooone else in the world. The point is he could do it far more often than he does if he wasn't such a liability.
Would never have believed we would be in this poisiton after day one. Think the rain is going to work to our favour-shorten the match enough to keep them from posting a difficult lead and getting our wickets, but give us enough time to get them out and go for it.
I wish we had some more liabilities in the batting line up averaging over 49.
Me too. But he *is* a liability. His high average comes from the fact that when he's not out he gets big scores, he tends to get little or loads. I'm only saying that he could stay in a get those high scores more often he was a bit more patient at getting himself in, I think it's difficult to argue otherwise

Calling Pietersen a liability is embarrassing tbh. He wouldnt get the big scores if he played a more reserved/defensive game, which has been proven in the past.

What's the crack with the Christmas song?
The same Morgan who can't buy a run in the Championship? The lad is never a test player, and neither is Bopara for that matter.
Best to stick with a young lad who at least has a chance of making it.
sonson said:Why can't he do both? There are plenty others can. The consistently best batsman get in and make hundreds reguallry, so why can't KP? If he wouldn't get the big scores by taking a more measured approach then that just means he isn't as good as the best ones who can get big scores in all sorts of situations. They seem to be able to go after an attack whilst not giving away their wicket. Being reletnlessly bullish isn't the only way to get big scores.
As I stated before, on form he is the best in the world at dominating an attack. But he's either on form, or he telegraphs his intentions and is baited easily. He isn't reliable at all. Hence, a liability.
How many test match hundreds has he got? How many runs has he got? What is his average?
An average of nearly 50 when you play your home test match cricket in a so called bowler friendly nation is absolutely superb. One of the greatest batsmen to ever play for England and in no way, shape or form a liability.
sonson said:Never said otherwise. But in comparison with other top batsman who regulalry posts hundreds and win matches, he's a liability. He either goes cheaply, or he posts a big number. He rarley posts big scores in sucsession, like the very best. You can't rely on him.
Completely disagree as Pietersen does regularly post hundreds. But there you go.
sonson said:Give me an example of when he has put together two or three big scores back to back then, more than once? In a Test series he tends to give you one big innings out of six.

India last summer 200 and 175.
Done it a couple of times iirc. Also against the Saffers. Im sure the stats are about somewhere.

Pretty sure he put some big innings together in the Ashes series when we were mullered in 06/07 (including a double ton)
sonson said:The fact that you can *sort of* remembered isolated moments when he has done it five years apart proves the point really.
sonson said:Fair enough, but others have done it over decades, Kp certainly hasn't. Unquestionably an excellent batsman but I place the ability to win matches over technique, and there have probably been 7 or 8 batsman in the last ten years better than that than KP.
As an aside, I've no idea why they don't just call it a day here, clearly no-one is going to win.
