Striker
Starting tomorrow at NOON due to the Olympic Torch Relay in the area, with Day 2, 3 and 4 starting at the regular time of 11am.

Stephen Harmison, Liam Plunkett and Jamie Harrison are included as seam options. Dale Benkenstein (shoulder) is missing, as is Graham Onions (England duty).

MJ Di Venuto
WR Smith
MD Stoneman
BA Stokes
PD Collingwood
ID Blackwell
P Mustard (*+)
SG Borthwick
LE Plunkett
CD Thorp
SJ Harmison
J Harrison
C Rushworth

I'd leave out Harrison and Rushworth from that side. Harmison has his chance to prove to Cook and the management that he still has what it takes to play for Durham. A similar thing can be said of Plunkett I suppose but he has age/time on his side, whereas with Harmy I feel it could/should be the end if he doesn't perform. Good to have Stokes back. Smith remains despite his poor form, seemingly we have nobody else to replace him :-?.

Onions could be a massive loss, shame he couldn't play on the first three days and be 'subbed' for Day 4. Although I actually think he may play at Trent Bridge therefore they won't want him getting tired/injured.

Massive game for us, we really must start getting some points on the board, Taunton is usually good for batting so I'd like to think our batsmen can get some runs and build some confidence.

As for the Cider Twats, I imagine they'll be unchanged from last week, so - Suppiah, Compton, Barrow, Hildreth (C), Kieswetter (W), Trego, Meschede, Philander, C Overton, J Overton, Dockrell

Onions on England duty? The test doesn't start until Friday, and he almost definitely won't be playing. What happened to when teams were picking 12 players and swapping one of them when they went off to play for England?

In theory he could play the first 3 Days before reporting to Trent Bridge, we could nominate a player to play on Day 4. However I imagine the ECB won't want Onions running around, burning energy if he has a potential of playing in the Test Match. As much as I don't like the ECB, I can see their reasoning.

So can I if he was going to play at Trent Bridge, but the chances of the selectors changing a winning team is unlikely.

Agreed but there is the possibility (albeit slim) of one of the bowlers being injured in nets between now and Friday.....

Commentary of this one is available on 5Live Sports Extra too which is excellent, making it the big game of the week. Somerset's members also do a volunteer commentary which can be accessed through their website, although it is a tad biased

From the Somerset website, their squad is named.

Alfonso And Gemaal In Squad To Face Durham

Alfonso Thomas (pictured) and Gemaal Hussain have been named in a 14-man Somerset squad for the LV=County Championship match with Durham at Taunton, starting tomorrow.

Neither is certain to play as the fitness of both will be assessed in the morning. Alfonso only arrived back from Indian Premier League duty with Pune Warriors today and his selection will depend on how fresh he feels after the flight.

Gemaal came through a club game at the weekend in the latest step towards recovery from a hamstring injury and will do some bowling in the nets tomorrow before a decision is taken on him.

Director of Cricket Brian Rose told this website: “We will see how Alfonso and Gemaal are before the game and then finalise our team.

“Whatever happens it is good to have both back in contention after seeing so many senior players ruled out.

“Just having ‘Fonz’ back in the dressing room will be a boost because he has such a positive outlook on the game and it rubs off on others.

“Durham have not started the season well and didn’t perform very impressively against us at Chester-le-Street recently.

“But they have a strong and experienced squad, who will relish coming to Taunton. The weather forecast is much improved and I think we can expect some very competitive cricket.”

Jos Buttler is also back in the Somerset squad, after being sidelined with split webbing on a hand, sustained during fielding practice.

Somerset (from) A.Suppiah, A.Barrow, N.Compton, J.Hildreth (capt), C.Kieswetter (wkt), J.Buttler. P.Trego, C.Meschede, C.Overton, J.Overton, A.Thomas, G.Dockrell, G.Hussain, M.Waller.

Unsurprisingly and like a lot of Durham fans at the minute I dont have a lot of confidence for this game. Nothing suggests that we will win and if Harmison plays he is almost bound to pick up an injury and not play in at least 2 of the 4 days.

I always try to err on the side of positivity in the build up to the game, then as soon as it starts and we lose wickets the confidence just drains away.... :-(. So for now I'm thinking that Harmy and Pudsey will both be on fire with a point to prove on their return, knowing that they cannot let the chance of a place in the side go.

However, in reality I see us struggling to take wickets on a featherbed of a pitch and Suppiah, Compton, Hildreth and Kieswetter will add to our relegation-troubled woes.

Weather looks canny for the first two days anway!

just logged in to see why there was no details of the game on cricinfo. Sick to death of these bloody olympics, awarded to London, not friggin England. Who the hell is going to stand and watch some toss pot staggering up the road with an enlarges fag-lighter?

I see Harmison is fit, wonder if he will be injured in August when the football season starts again.

Will the hour be made up at some point? If not, I'm as pissed off as you

I'm sure Day 1 has just had all of the timings moved back 1 hour so should be no time lost.

Tough on Harrison mind. There you go son, get down to Taunton and bowl some of them little left arm seamers for your debut! Especially given how bowler friendly the Riverside is.

Started well but cannot see our bowlers taking 20 wickets. Plunkett and Harmison haven't exactly set the 2nd team on fire and Harrison on debut. Banker draw for me if the batters can make over 350 (although unlikely given recent performances).

57-0 after 13.4 overs, Di Venuto 39* and Smith 17*.

Surely we've not remembered how to bat? I know it's Taunton but I wouldn't fancy some of our batsmen to score runs batting against a tennis ball on a concrete pitch this season.
