Perfect opportunity to bludgeon his way into the test team if he starts the season well

He's registered to play for Sunderland, but obviously only 1 of Stokes/Rushworth will be able to play, which it is depends on availability.

Given his batting ability, surely you'd be better off with Stokes if they're both available? Mind, I know nothing about Sunderland CC so they could have plenty of good batters.

Rushworth has come through at Sunderland so we are loyal to him. We are probably a bowler short from having a good go this season as well tbf, certainly have a more complete batting line up.

We also may have another opening bat signing for us as our 'overseas' player, although he is well known in these parts and would have limited availability too.

In terms of his ODI performances and his hand injury he has taken a small step back in the England reckoning next to the likes of Taylor for example.

Flintoff started in the Test team batting at number 8 and 1 st change bowler.

I suspect Stokes may be a better bat than Freddie was at this stage , but his bowling is unreliable. If his bowling shows some improvement the selectors may take a punt.

He is probably a year or two away from what is still a very good Test side.

england seem untroubled about their desperate need for an allrounder, i'd say constistant scores with the bat will be more likely to get him into the side, although his bowling ability certainly differentiates him from all the buttlers, bairstows and gales that may or may not be ahead of him in the pecking order.

whilst im happy to have him at dccc until he is fantastic and ready to take on the best in the world in test cricket sadly the route to that is usually trawl the world playing meaningless games for the lions and travelling thousands of mies just to carrying drinks....

The lad has bundles of talent and on his day is utterly lethal. Thoroughly decent lad as well. Spoke to him briefly last night after the Yorkshire game and his finger looks to be a lot better albeit still with a bandage on.

As ever though success for one of our players domestically is a double edged sword as we wont see him for most of the season.

Last year his absence and Onions through England call ups (even though Onions never played in one or two he was called up for) undoubtedly contributed to us losing the CC. The Hampshire defeat didnt help either. Terrible day that was.

That's still not sorted? Didn't that happen relatively early last season? I know there was complication, but a broken finger lasting for about 8/9 months?

it didnt heal properly after he made his comeback, damaged it again for england, didnt heal propely AGAIN and had to have another operation which appears to have done the job.

Tim Paine has been out for over a year now with a broken finger that won't heal
