Pakistan v England, 2nd test

Indeed, when we lose 2/3 series in a row then maybe people (no knee jerkers) may start to ask questions. This winter will be a good lesson for all the England players win lose or draw. As we a are a young team it will do nothing but benefit them for the future.

NB I though the test cricket on display overall today was excellent.

:lol::lol:

You gotta just take a step back sometimes and have a giggle to yourself

Trott (30)
KP (31)
Prior (30)
Swann (34)
Strauss (35)
Panesar (29)
Anderson (29)
Bell (29)

So when we come back in 5 years time and none of the above are around this is a good experience

- dont forget bowlers are done for by 33 by and large these days if they have played a number of years of international cricket due to ailing bodies and the demands of international cricket

Are you really suggesting 29/30 is old for a cricketer with a straight face? This is a belter by even your standards?

8 of the team are 30 or under. In comparison to most international teams in the world I would suggest that was a good ratio....no?

Your starting to look a little bit silly now....again

I didnt say they were 'old'. You said we have a 'young' team and it will be good experience. They are not young per se

If its such a good experience playing in these conditions when I suggest playing IPL (similar conditions) why dont you agree or because is it who posts it so wouldnt want to form an opinion of your own and stick with the masses because its safer.

Stop believing all the crap the media give you, they build them up like they do with the footballers so they can knock them down

Bowlers 29/30 have two years left at their peak and then injuries take over - refer to Brett Lee/Zaheer Kahn and co so yes that is old

Unlike the media building up the football team, England have actually achieved something in cricket. A 20/20 world cup, officially number 1 in the test rankings (regardless of whether that is to your liking or rankings) and an Ashes victory down under. Is this England team fantastic and all conquering? No. Are they ranked number 1 in the world? Yes.

I don't see why you have such a negative agenda

There is no crap in the media, they are No1 because they deserve to be there based on merit. If they get beat over the tests in the winter and lose that spot then fair enough. Nobody is suggesting they are as good as the Windies of the 70's/ 80's or the Australians of the 90's for one minute.

I would rather watch England play 7 tests in the sub continent this winter than watch the IPL any day of the week....it's plain dull. Besides it will be much more of a benefit to their game, if not their bank balance.

England are ranked 5th in the world at football, are they the fifth best side?

No

Spain are ranked number 1. Are they the best side? Yes.

That was a bit of a daft post

The IPL is nothing to do with whether you enjoy watching it, its to do with our batsman improving their technique against spinners in their own back yard so when it comes to the next test series in Asia they have more of a clue at how to rotate the strike

Let's wait and see how this winter unfolds before pressing the panic button....

that just the thing with me though I am not panicking as I quite clearly stated we would do very well to scrape a series draw out here because our failings were bleeming obvious to see before a ball was bowled

the 5-0 stuffing in India in the ODI series was a clear warning where in basically every game we fell short with the bat when either setting a total or chasing one (4 of our test top 6 played in that series)

you did, but you also said we'd stuggle in australia and you said india would turn us over.

Trott did remarkably well to get 70 odd as he isnt very good against spin

If you refer to my 'James Anderson' thread I told who would need to get the runs, one did the other didnt.

Morgan gone and Bell is a walking wicket

i said one of cook and trott should have gone big, and i am correct. very difficult pitch to get in on, but once in, you should make it count. both poor dismissals considering.

its stupid to say player a and b NEED to get the runs because what if player c does? you just picked out the two most likely.

morgan wil never be a test match batsman (as i have repeatedly said) and bell looks clueless against the chuck.

Any chance of staying on the thread topic

Feel free to start another thread and I will respond in kind

erm, coming from the man who moves the goal posts every other post? oh and the answer is no as its relevant with you acting as if you see it all and call it all correct.

Trott isnt going to go big though is he because technically he struggles against spin and has in the past often got bogged down. The reason why England dont do well in Asia is because we have very few batsman with the nouse tio get big runs. The only two who have it in their locker to get a 150 plus is KP and Cook.

Agree on Morgan.

I would pick Stokes as he can bowl and is a left hander and oozes class

Is Bopara on the tour ?

The batsmen need competition. Whilst Ravi has shown some mental frailties he ain't a bad player of spin and could offer 10 overs a day.

Just a thought.

Bopara is on tour.

Having had a few chances in the past I would suggest you are always better when out the side than when it. Mentally weak which doesnt help when you have 4 catches round the bat and a spinner getting it to spit off the track

I think he's utter gash and don't want to see him anywhere near the Test side.

Back to this Test Match, I think if we are still batting at Lunch, with say 2 or 3 wickets left - I feel we will be back on top. As things stand I think it's very much in the balance based on us having to bat 4th. A lead of 50+ could be just the ticket.

After looking like we were gonna get a substantial lead now if we get 50-100 it would be good.

They looked a different bowling attack after the pearler that got Trott.

When did Swann turn 34? - you have added 2 years on there. Whilst also conveniently forgetting to mention Cook (26), Trott (30), Broad (25), Bresnan (26), Morgan (25), Finn (22), Bopara (26)

And once again failing to look at any wider picture as those mentioned are just in this touring party - look at the players beyond coming through - Woakes (22), Taylor (21), Borthwick (21), Davies (25), Hales (21), Bairstow (21) - all played international cricket in the last few months.

Of course, I'd completely expect top class batsmen such as Pietersen, Prior and Bell to be finished within 2 years as everyone knows good batsmen have no longevity, in fact it's quite astounding how Kallis, Ponting, Jayawardene, Dravid, Sangakhara, Misbah, Younis Khan, Sehwag, Tendulkar, Chanderpaul and Smith, continue to dominate the world batting rankings given their exuberant youth.

Did I say they were old?

A poster said we have a young side, we dont, we might have a young supporting cast, but the core of our side is not ''young''

The 6 young players you have mentioned are not playing in this series, thus, what ''experience '' whether we win lose or draw is lost on me

If you want to argue about young up and coming players, I wouldnt argue but that wasnt the debate
