You dont win any prizes for effort, the hard currency of a bowler is wickets

We mustered a paltry 352 in both our innings combined last time out so am not sure I would be claiming anyones day just yet.
I dont see England posting too many scores above 300 in an innings on this tour would be delighted to see this happen and be proved wrong
I just did, because it was.
The last game is history, and you surea are no Nostradamus.
Happy with that, two more good days and it could be 1-1.
I guess ignorance is bliss

I won't dispute that, but a 0 in the wickets column doesn't mean he's bowled badly. He's built pressure on the batsmen today and whether or not that's directly led to a wicket, he's played well as part of the bowling unit. Sometimes it's Broad building the pressure and Jimmy taking the wickets, sometimes, today being a good example, it's the other way round. But you can hardly claim we've been carrying him today.
In alien conditions when you have bought a guy into make up the 4 man attack who hasnt played a test for approx two years, he needs to take wickets. Tracks such as these dictate no bowler ever really gets flayed around, so building pressure doesnt carry much weight as say it would on a flat deck at Brisbane where scoring at 4 an over would be a given.
Were the commentators not saying this should be 250 A/O after lunch....
Cricinfo commentary have said 'perhaps' everyone has misread the pitch and its not as flat as people have made out
"And to think some wanted him dropped".
I've no idea if anyone ever said this, but no doubt it will be trotted out by you know who...

Good day overall by us. Shame we couldn't hold all our chances. Might've had them all out by now. Still, class day from the bowlers esp. Broad and Swanny. Showed some real class some of the deliveries they bowled. That bunsen burner to remove that Rehman was a beaut! And that nip backer from Broad to get rid of Ali was tremendous.
Get them out for 280 tomorrow. Push on for a 100 odd lead. Fingers crossed.
'There are so many questions. England must provide the answers tomorrow. It could be this side’s biggest day in Test cricket. The series and their reputation are on the line.'
Steve James
He's not far wrong, but it's a bit dramatic. How many times can this side have "their biggest day in test cricket?" - Headingley 2009, Perth 2010, Lords 2011 and now this?
It will raise doubts over their ability to win on the sub-continent if England lose this test, but it wouldn't change my confidence that they are the best team in the world.
What he is getting at I think, are England the real deal
Saffers are the best side in the world
And yet they couldn't even beat Australia in their own back yard and were embarrassed in one test match against a very mediocre Sri Lankan side. Until they start performing consistently they cannot be called the best side in the world. What he is getting at I think, are England the real deal

How many times do they have to prove it? - I would guess the Asian conquest is the final chapter in their quest to be undoubted number one team in the world, but either way I don't think there's anyone better than England at the moment.
