That's what the bloke who survived said. That before he went up all he could think of was all the things wrong with his life, but when he jumped he realised the only thing that was wrong with his life was the fact he'd jumped

That just chilled my blood. Sad.

Yeah but he was a bit of a crank imho, he said a Seal arrived and help support his now crippled body from drowning...

There is nothing in what he's said that isn't reasonable nor probable!! ;)

Is it worth watching mate?

Aye mate. It gives a bit of an insight into the state those people must have been in to do what they did. There's a lot of footage of them waiting/jumping too. It really shows how far they fall.

I should really watch it again and give it my full attention. I wouldn't say it's depressing as such. If anything it maybe gives the majority of us a chance to step back from our own shit (when it feels particuarly bad) and realise it's never as bad as we think.

There was one part that was quite sad to me. A lad that had been threatening suicide for years (iirc) and when he finally made his mind up to jump he phoned his mother to tell her. She said can you do me a favour, and write my details on a note and put it inside a plastic bag in your pocket so I can know when you're found please?

The bloke must have been extremely desperate to do what he did obviously, but it was the fact his mother was resigned to losing him already, and that was all that she could ask of him that really hit home - for me anyway.

The fake ripper survived jumping before he sent the tapes didn't he?

There was a really good feature film called "The Bridge" about people jumping off the golden gate bridge to do themselves in. Think a few have survived (one was interviewed in the film) but most die, something like 35 a year too!

Aye, fascinating but harrowing doc, that.

Heard a radio doc recently about a Chinese bloke who devotes his life to stopping people jumping of a bridge in Shanghai. He spends 14 hours a day, 7 days a week doing it, yet there are still loads of people who do it anyway.

FFS, just watched that then followed a link on youtube anf just been sodding rickrolled:mad:

bastards, all sorts of shit on there......rick astley everywhere.

God knows what's running through their head....... Worrying thing is there is some people that just don't want to stop them

:-(

The long haired fella with the leathers, how he calmly and slowly leans backwards to his death.

What must be going through your mind to do that. Very sad.

Seen it, really good watch, you see that Goth kid go backwards

From an article on cracked.com a whiole ago about things that stopped suicides.

So you might have heard this story about this Australian dude that happens to live by a picturesque cliff that a lot of suicidal people want to throw themselves from.

Now, while you or I would decide sooner or later that this is a f***ing depressing place to live and find a better house, Don Ritchie has lived there 50 years, and instead of trying to avoid these sad, stressful situations that would send any of us running the other way, he goes out there every time and talks to them.

He's saved 160 lives by some estimates. He hasn't been able to save everyone and has watched people jump to their deaths right in front of him, but that doesn't stop him from going out there again and again, every time.

And after talking to hundreds of suicidal people, I don't know about you, but I'd be tempted to start yelling at each new person about how the 100 people before them all said the same thing and where do they get off thinking their problems are so unique. But Ritchie manages to treat each person like they matter.

And the most amazing thing is that he's not the only guy doing this. Halfway around the world in Japan, Yukio Shige hangs out at a popular suicide cliff, and not only talks people out of suicide on the spot, but later helps them with their family problems and tries to help them find jobs.

On days when you just want to watch the world burn, remember that for every dickhead in the world bullying gay teenagers there is a guy like this.
