Re: Bloke jumps from Wearmouth Bridge and hits pavement

My mate got hit by a car in front of me at the lights next to St Mary's carpark on the way back from the Sunderland - Wimbledon game a few year ago, and that was bad enough to see, would hate to see a suicide.

I remember that mate, was in the papers wasnt it? Sad story.

Pissed people?

It's not something I would shout at someone who is on the bridge but if I was sitting in traffic and wanted to get home I would not be best pleased and would want them to get on with it. Either way.

Oh do fuck off.

You can't see the ground from the railway bridge.

Must remember to tell the 50 or so other people that were on the train looking that we couldn't see what we were looking at

People say its the cowards way out, is it fuck. Takes massive balls to decide to end your life.

It takes a severely depressed person to do it.

There is no pride in it and if someone is suffering from a bit teenage angst and thinks I'll jump then just think of the hurt for your family.
No lass is worth that!;)

One person's tragedy is another person's inconvenience.

No offence but I am not too upset by the suicide of people I don't know.

Nor am I. But there's a difference between not being too upset about the suicide of a random person and actively willing a someone who is clearly at their wits' end to jump to their death for their own 'craic' and entertainment. Scum in its purest sense as far as I'm concerned.

It is a bit crass but when you have had a few you see things in a different perspective.

If a jumper is going to jump, they get on with it. If they dally about for a while it's just a cry for help. (not that I'm a professional oir anything:lol:)

You're being a bit of a member here for the sake of it aren't you?

No marra. I don't see it as that big a deal.

Let's hope none of your loved ones find themselves in the position where their life or death finds itself in the hands of a particularly tinkerous rowdy crowd then ehy?

I attended a funeral of a friend who jumped about two months ago.
Harrowing, shocking and certainly nothing for anyone to joke about.

Chances are they would have made their mind up before they stepped up to the bridge.

A particularly tinkerous rowdy crowd would make little difference.

Reeto. So you'd not have any ill-feeling towards them whatsoever?

Went to a funeral for a mate who topped himself a few years back and once the wake was out of the way we all went out on the lash and had a great day.

I think we were all a bit manic to be honest but it was looked back on with fond memories.

Of course I would and if the bloke jumped the pissed people would probably have sobered up quite quickly. But while they are dilly dallying, the chances are that they aren't going to jump.

That's what happened with us too, just saying those bell-ends who were egging the kid to jump should be ashamed of themselves.

I agree it was in a bit of bad taste but if I saw someone on the bridge and they didn't just get up and jump over, i reckon they would not be going over the top.

Would you not take the piss if they were wearing an Iron Maiden T-shirt?

I was down there, outside my mates at Bonner's Raff (sp) when it happened. Thought the Five-o's were just chasing some kids or something, then the ambulance and coastguard turned up. I'm not sure if the guy hit the ground or the water though as the services seemed to be looking over the handrail into the water alot. Tragic either way.
