Yann M'vila - target or not?

First start for WBA tonight. Still looks a class act. Sat at the base of the midfield, tackled, headed, received, moved it well and with pace, looked to pass forward and done so well. Hasn’t been particularly tested but doesn’t look obviously immobile or leggy.

In short, he’d have easily done a job for us in a position we’re desperate for options in.
Literally exactly what we’ve needed all season.

76 passes tonight. Just taking it from defence and moving it forward. Anchoring the midfield. The license a player like him would have given some of our others would have made a big difference. Not to mention the unquantifiable stuff like experience and influence
Not necessarily indicative of performance but his sofascore rating is actually the second worst in the WBA side for tonight. Still manages a 7 though.

The opposition are really poor and it’s been like a training exercise second half, they’ve totally controlled the middle of the park, so it’s arguably not the best game to be properly objective but just in terms of quality and composure, it’s absolutely still there.

He’s basically playing the Evans role but with more quality.

As I type he’s just sprayed an inch perfect diagonal. Class
It almost as if nearly every Sunderland fan knew this and what he could do for us.

He looked quite heavy and cumbersome. He needs to kickstart his career quickly otherwise he’ll slide closer and closer to non league before he hits 30
In fairness he’s been out for months and had only just come back when Ballard knacked him. He doesn’t look like he’s going to get anywhere near his potential though. Good to see him playing again.

Maja came on for the final 10 tonight, his first game since being assaulted by that thug Ballard.
Love a good tackle more than anyone but that was a bad one.
Remember thinking at the time it happened that maja could be out for a while after it.

Love Ballard and his aggressive defending but maja was defo on the end of a bad one

It's becoming apparent that the data in football doesn't make you a great player or win you matches.

It was against one of the worst sides to ever play in this division like.

Given he's only just got up a level of match fitness now, with 7 games to go, he wouldn't have made any difference to our season anyway. Presumably he's earning a fortune as well.

We've needed a holding midfielder since Evans went off injured about a year ago. Not sorting that out in the summer was the missed opportunity. I didn't understand the clamour for M'Vila in January, he was never the answer to anything.
