Striker
Only Sunderland could retire a 9m(?) player n hes still playing 15 year later.Still going strong at 41. What a career he’s had.

Well said.Very good player for us, and came across well on STID
don’t blame him for his decision, understandable.
Hope he comes back and does well
It showed why footballers at a certain level need to look for that contract that sets them up for life. Charlie wyke another. Much as I’d have liked both to stay (assuming Stewart got fit) it’s totally understandable why both left.
Even a knarled busted old clock is right twice a day....a fit stewart would be the first name on the team sheet...you think it was good business as if they knew he would break down..i assure you that was not why they sold him .it just looks better than it was because of his injury....
We must be the only club in the country not to have a proper striker. Disgrace we never replaced him.
Hindsight makes you look like a king mate !If you think the price was not contingent on his ultimate fitness well your an .........(ill let you fill in the blanks)They didn't know an unfit Ross Stewart who'd just missed a year due to injury, and wasn't expected return from an injury for another 3 months after they sold him was injured?
Give over. Have a think about it, man.
At last some common sense enters the arena!not the message many believe on here as they would rather believe the "we were so brilliant" oh "how stupid" southampton are narrative rather than the more prosaic reality of these types of deals...ffs these deals and players have to be insured to play!..lets wait for the accounts! You'd think Southampton would have put something into the deal to protect them in some way given his recent injury record. Certainly, if this was Sunderland buying a player with so obvious issues I'd hope we got them super cheap or there was payments based on number of games played etc.

What actually was his injury mate? big money deals are big money deals and if you think there done o "oh i hell be all reet man divneee worry" sign cheque here basis your the one with half a brain ..We wil get nowhere near 10 million for him and the accounts will prove this! You can swallow the bollocks from the club if you want *the fans knew"ffs listen to yerself? the physios and doctors and the insurers were oblivious but "the fans knew" dear dear meDo you think that those at the club thought he was fit like? I honestly don't see what your point is other than that?
I thought it was well known at the time he'd never recover fully. It was posted by the vast majority. Why would the club not know?
I posted about his injury being potentially career ending multiple times. It's not hindsight, it was just clear and obvious to anyone with half a brain. It wasn't a minor injury, the club and (most) fans recognised this and took Southampton for a ride with £10m.
A couple of examples of me, who knars nowt about the ins and outs (other than it was obvious he'd be a crock), from a very quick search:
-Here.
-And here.

Most of that is hogwash mate !show me a link where the club has stated we sold him for 10 million?..the accounts will show the true figure! " the fans knew" ffs .... we wont agree mate so just move on ..all i ask is wait for the accounts to come out for that period and see how this croc does next year!He has, and had a recurring issue with his Achilles. Or according to you they're just making it up, like.
What on earth is that last sentence? Which doctor or physio was oblivious to his injury? Are you saying he wasn't actually injured and it's some sort of conspiracy?
To get this straight, you think that:
I didn't know he was injured, or didn't know his injury was bad (despite being out injured for a year) with a very serious injury.
When I said it at the time his injury was bad it was just a lucky guess, and compared him to other players with career ending injuries it was coincidence. It's just fortunate that hindsight has proved me to be correct.
Neither club knew he was injured, the physios and doctors were all oblivious to his injury. Southampton signing him wasn't a massive risk.
Sunderland AFC didn't know how bad the injury was, despite having physios and doctors at the club monitoring him, and actually releasing updates on his injury.
When Sunderland AFC received the bid, they didn't take into account his (apparent) injury and just jumped at the chance to sell him - our best player - for £10m.
Sunderland not only didn't know about his injury when they sold him, but both Southampton and Sunderland (for some reason) lied about the fee the player was sold for.
So sad if true, hope not.I honestly think he's done.

I hope not too mate, I just have a gut feeling that he may not play again to any decent standard. So sad if true, hope not.
