This is what happens when you want specific players. Gus made a big thing of not wanting to look for players based on characteristics and instead wanting to focus on bringing in individuals that he'd identified. If it has to be the handful of players that were identified at the outset then he needs to be prepared to exercise some patience.
 
This is perhaps the result of what happened at the end of the season. Had we been in a position to be more positive about staying up then perhaps Poyet would have had the luxury of looking at potential signings earlier, that coupled with existing valuable players being sold had we went down and the deadwood re-signed, our miracle escape may have meant our attentions were focused on the immediate short term at the expense of the long term.

That said, you can't really blame anybody in that respect.
 
We've struggled for years to attract anyone up here, hence why we end up paying ludicrous wages to average players, it's the only way we can get anyone.

Agreed, but it could just as easily be the fact that Poyet wants players in now at any cost and Congerton and Maggie are a bit more cautious about getting the right deals for the club, which is their job to be fair.

Poyet and Oatway have been stated on more than one occasion that they wanted the new players in early in pre-season so that Poyet had plenty of time to work with them. Congerton has failed to deliver and Poyet is rightly starting to sound pissed off about it.

This. Imagine he came out and said "Everything's going great. Over the moon with the signings so far and we've a load of money in the bank." This place would meltdown instantly and new servers would be ordered. The bloke can't win .... Everyone to a man should hold judgment until the second the window closes then evaluate how the transfer window panned out.
 
why are people hating on gus, the man whose miracle kept us up last season. it's congerton who is failing us
