A tweet from Austin Casel:

The Liverpool crest honors the 96 who died at Hillsborough. That's something you should have known, @.DunkinDonuts

Does THE crest represent those who died in the Heysel Disaster?

The badge thing is irrelevant and they certainly shouldn't taking offence at that.
What's poor are the comments that followed about candles etc.
like I say that hillsborough incident could've happened to anyone of us or our families.
96 people went to watch a game of football and never returned. Find that heartbreaking personally.
Will agree with you 100% on the tragedy side of it, however, people take offense when no offense is intended are in some cases start to use it to there advantage. The people who support Liverpool will always have to live with that tragedy but I personally think taking offense to Dunkin Donuts changing a badge is a bit over the top, even for them.

They did take offence mind, just look at the comments under the article
I didn't say they didn't take offence. It is previous to take exception over that.
My issue was with some of the insensitive remarks that followed on here.

Totally agree with the crest thing. Overly precious for me.

Haway man what, they have changed a badge for gods sake not gone and abused anyone. I would be pretty confident in saying that they did not do it to offend but as some playful marketing tool, how anyone takes offense to that needs a shake to be honest. Today with this social media shit, you will always offend someone no matter what you say and in this instance I think your response is worse than shit.
At worst it's a badly planned PR stunt. Nothing more.

I think its because they take offence so easily that people get sick of it though, thats sort of the point. And other than a refernce to candles I am not sure anyone has taken the piss out of Hillsborough. It is mostly taking the piss out of Liverpool fans because they have been offended by a copy cat, daft club crest. It is this sort of thing that pisses most off about Liverpool fans.

The point is that the comments indicate a loss of perspective and holier than thou attitude. While it was truly awful what happened to the fans who died and were injured there is no sense of perspective re their involvement at Heysel, just a blame everyone attitude. That is what drew the candle comments and while I don't agree I think the greater issue lies with your ' second club'

It really isn't every other week mind.
I think it was admirable what they fought for having been held accountable for years for a tragedy that wasn't of their doing.
I'd like to think we would all come together if confronted (god forbid) with a similar scenario.
Mate, the entire nation was behind them for most of the last 30 years, it's the fact that thwy're f***ing revelling in it that gets my goat. The promotion by dunkin donuts was ridiculous, but to say making a hideously poor taste crest that looks a little bit like theirs is showing a lack of respect is cringeworthy in the extreme. Some people just like to play the victim.

Yes, the fans (or rather a particular group of family members associated with those who died) did fight and did a great job. Not so much the club, though they seem happy to reflect in the success.

They didn't even add the flames to the club badge until many years after the tragedy took place. Now the original verdict has been overturned, it seems LFC make more of it than they did before (adding a few more flames to the neckline of their shirts recently IIRC). It's not difficult to be cynical about their motives in a football world where commercialism is so rife.

Club adds flames to the club crest as a mark of respect and remembrance for 96 of its fans who died horrifically. Flames are then replaced by coffee in a tacky advertising stunt. I don't blame the fans for being annoyed.
I'm not fond of Liverpool or its fans on a footballing level but I hate the way people use Hillsborough as a cheap excuse to have a dig. All this 'they'll be lighting candles' nonsense, whenever something goes against them, is in bad taste, imo.
