Non League Football

The 3G pitch at Consett is probable the reason to be fair.

Brighouse is a strange choice though.

Would imagine that clubs are protective of their grass pitches with the weather and amount of games to come. But there are plenty of clubs with artificial surfaces that could host games at that level locally - a Stockton or even New Ferens Park if Consetts wasn’t available?

Ahh I was forgetting Consett is 3G!!! Should have known that, been there a few times over the years!

Something like 6 wins in 8 for him. Successful loan. Ends this week, can expect it extended.
Loads of mates at blyth game last night and that can be an intimidating atmosphere for a keeper .. Matty young was many people’s mOM .. great showing and really kicking on and in maturity on this loan

What isn't explained is why?

OK their pitch is knackered, and they played the previous match at Consett (imagine weather being better at Consett than anywhere?)

But Brighouse? Surely there's better options? Bishop Auckland? Spennymoor? Darlington? South Shields? Gateshead?

Have Dunston upset someone in the Northeast FAs
Aye it doesn’t seem logical. I remember when Gatesheads pitch was knackered and they played mainly at pools but seem to recall one ‘home’ game being played at Boston.

Hopefully come back and push Patto and Bishop next season. Could do with some real competition.

I was talking to a fella yesterday who was at the spennymoor game and verbals etc was high and said looked absolutely unfazed and looks very comfortable in a physical and competitive league. Good to hear and the last week probably the toughest challenge. Scunthorpe then two away derbys, for the team won 2 out of 3.

Got to Spennymoor’s ground about 7ish, ref came out and tried to bounce the ball in one of the six yard boxes and it wouldn’t so called it. The home fans were raging. Seemed excessive as rest of the pitch looked OK.

My pal was there on Saturday and that happened but they played it. Bottom end of the slope in and around the goalmouth.

Was in a hotel last night and the kings lynn team were staying for their game against blyth. Two questions spring to mind, why on earth are they playing in National league north. And are they full time pro’s? If so how do they generate the cash to have a full time set up and stay overnight in hotels for away trips?
Partly helped by the amount of London suburb teams in National League and National League South the North one covers pretty much the whole of England, ridiculous amounts of travelling for some, map on the below link :-

Bishop's Stortford is just over 20 miles due west of Braintree Town, they must be well peed off at playing in the National league North

They are.

I think Braintree is actually more Northern than Stortford and they tried to argue that point but The FA said that all the northern sides would have to drive past Stortford to Braintree, which is true.

They lost many of their title winning squad, including the top scorer, captain, Centre mid and Centre half. They’ve basically given up for the year and are trying to run at the least amount of a loss they can this season and will regroup next year at a lower level.

I was there. He looked head and shoulders above anyone else on the pitch. Outstanding. Great handling. Looked quality.

The FA take all the sides at Step 2 of the Non league pyramid and put the northern most 24 in the National League North and the Southern most in National League South

There are some adjustments at the boundaries - eg Gloucester wanted to go into National League North as it was easier to get to away games in North using M5 than travelling West-East in National League South

The big problem came years ago when for a time the clubs promoted to step 2 were
2 from Northern Premier
2 from Southern Premier and
2 from Istmian League

This meant each year 4 southern teams and 2 Northern teams were being promoted, thus moving boundary south each season
Will be at Wembley a third time to watch them ... if. Still an if. Strange competition this one. Last year Gateshead made hard work of National North opposition. Macclesfield will probably have as many, if not more fans at the International Stadium than the Heed and it will be interesting. Winners get £15k, losers £5k. Losing finalists £30k and winners £60k. A share of Wembley receipts could be around £100k. For Gateshead, cash strapped without their own ground and relatively poor support ( although 1200 was a decent turn out against Peterborough Sports) , beating Macclesfield is huge - apart from the potential Wembley glory.
And they still have the playoffs ...
The clubs get no share of Wembley receipts from non league finals day. They only get the prize money
