What a shot by chapple. Needing 7 off the last over he's hit the first ball for 6 to cow corner

And they've declared with 4 balls left having got past 300.

300 up. Now 4 balls left to not lose the 9th wicket.

They've declared rather than face the last 4 balls.

If Lancs win they stay up.

If lancs win they stay up due to getting 4 bonus points in the first match between these sides. Middlesex got 22 to lancs 4 at lords. Will be 22 to lancs and 3 to middlesex if they win this one. Pretty incredible if they do stop up.

21.2.7 The side which has the highest aggregate of points gained at the end of the season shall be the Champion County of their respective Division. Should any sides in the Championship table be equal on points, the following tie-breakers will be applied in the order stated: most wins, fewest losses, team achieving most points in contests between teams level on points, most wickets taken, most runs scored.

And bloody hell middlesex lost 2 points for slow over rate, that could relegate them

Up to Middlesex this one now. From here they can and should at least draw although clearly if and when Lancashire bat they will throw the kitchen sink at anything and everything.

Fleeting showers is forecast which implies they may be off for rain on a couple of occasions which suits Middlesex.

I did wonder why the declared for, this explains it. Clever :)
At first I thought they should have blocked the 4 balls then tried to get 20 or 30 more for free, but he must have decided that the percentage option was to declare, thinking you should win many more than you lose from 88 in front rather than Middx having 4 chances to effectively end the season. Tricky one though.
