Much as I like Indiana Jones, The Big Bang Theory made a sensational point that he was absolutely irrelevant to the overall plot of Raiders of the Lost Ark!

It would have been a fairly shit film without him though.

Some one pointed out the other day that in Raiders of the Lost Arc nothing that Indiana Jones did throughout the entire film actually affected the out come of the plot. If you think about it he didn't stop the bad guys from getting the Arc and they came to a sticky end simply because the opened it. Jones's only role was to irritate them while they went about their business.

Perhaps it's a metaphor for Britain's role in WW2 - we were a nuisance to the Germans - but in the end they lost because the box they opened contained the Russian winter.
