Everton make record profit

They also made a record profit, 28 million, on player trading too. Fellaini is the profit.

Financially we are in the exact same position.

Not sure that's true at all. Without the fellaini money they would still have been even or just in profit.

We are still operating at a loss.

If Fellaini's nett book value was nil then yes the selling price to Man U would have been all profit.

To say that EFC and SAFC are in exactly the same financial position you would need to examine both clubs' balance sheets.

Assuming both clubs amortise players in the same way, then of course the actual selling value of the respective squads would need to be considered.

The profit from player sales was 28.2 million. The profit in the year was 28.2 million.

We will be breaking even with the new deal excluding player sales.

You better hope so now after the predictions you have made.

Lets hope we dont go down doing this eh?
What predictions?

This has been ellis' plan all along. To have a self sustaining club financially and he's done an excellent job on tgat side of things. A genuine self sustaining top level team for the first time in my life. It's a massive gamble as the elephant in the room is relegation but if it pays off we'll be in a superb position with the next tv deal.

The bloke is nothing but a money man and it shows.

We will have to hope that his policy pays off because if it doesnt and he starves the manager of transfer funds then he runs the risk of seeing us relegated and losing millions of pounds in Sky etc. revenue. Again we have this lurching from one position to another from SAFC. On the one hand we waste money on the likes of Graham and within 18 months or so chuck away £4m on him (we were willing to take £1m for him in the summer just to get him off our hands) ie money bags SAFC; now we have another club stance which is to spend less (when our squad clearly needs strengthening substantially) so that we can balance the books.

Now am I saying that I dont want us to balance the books - no.

Am I saying that - if we had taken a level headed and sensible approach to who we bought in the first place , then would that have been better placed to introduce this "balancing the books" policy - yes.

Its a game of brinkmanship by SAFC. Lets hope, if you are correct, that it pays off.

We've a few choices to make as supporters.

We can either
fully support him, it is a gamble but its one worth taking

Express your doubts about the plan, it seems risky, but still support them like fuck on matchday

Pack in your season ticket, spam message boards/radio phone ins about the incompetance of the club this last 60 years like an annoying pompous old twat and demand the manager is sacraficed after every loss

Which option are you choosing?

For a Everton to declare a profit either they are trying to sell the club they haven't had time to "re-invest" the Fellaini money.

We all know Football clubs don't make money, shirley.

First of all, you seem to have lost it already. Didnt take long. A couple of points, a couple of questions and youre off on one.

Secondly what I am saying is that I would be singing his name from the rooftops if he had managed previous transfers credibly and not lurched from one policy to another. Why didnt he stop previous managers buying shite like Danny Graham (loads of other candidates on whom money has been frittered away on) and balanced the books in previous seasons? Where was our financial accumen then?

We go on like a kid in a sweet shop one minute and then go on like the kid crying on the steret corner because he cant buy any sweets the next, bleating on about poverty when we've wasted tens of millions of pounds on crap.

I'm all for financial credibility but considering we now have a weakened squad to execute this policy from, its clearly brinkmanship as to whether he can pull this off and maintain our top flight status. Clearly a small profit this year would be very welcome to offset the large losses in previous seasons.

Can a squad that includes; a goalie who has had his confidence shattered, ageing central defenders, midfielders who cant create chances and forwards who cant score goals, stay up? I hope so because using your scenario they are going to seemingly have to without a lot of help in the transfer market this season.

A profit means very little unless we are performing well or at the very least in a stable position in the league.

If we're talking of comparisons here, then whilst SAFC's ground and training facilities are undoubtedly superior and thus probably more 'valuable' than EFC's, I suspect the other major asset base, that is to say the resale value of respective playing squads, will be tilted heavily in Everton's favour.

SAFC's ground produces less match day revenue than Goodison even in its present state. 'Value' is never quite black and white.

Not sure your training ground in 'undoubtedly superior' to Everton's newer facility but as we're looking at value EFC's is leased as is common business practice. So cash injection when sold but overall greater lease cost over a period.

We aren't self-sustaining. We make a loss every year.
