just starting back up again this week mate, very gradual, 15mins only twice a week, on grass.... want to wear some decent compression socks and the more mile ones I got are pretty rubbish , loadsa brands out there but unsure which ones are decent - your mate Kevin-O always wears compressions ive noticed, any idea what brand he uses ? unsure what difference is between calf guards and compression socks

I wear those ones. Definitely alot tighter than socks. Good to hear you're back running. Strollers soon

Things starting to come together sublt run other day was holding 8.45ish minute miles with no pace or heart rate drift for 8 miles @80% MHR legs aching a bit this week but will be having cut back week next week to coincide with my mini taper to the GNR.

Been a bit silly this week with 2 10k runs and an 8k run in the blazing sun, done nothing but burn myself out.

I'm getting slower :(

Even at the start of a run I'm struggling to get up to the sort of pace I was finishing my long runs at a month ago. It's weird because I don't feel any different in my breathing & my heart rate is steady at around 80% but my legs feel like lead. My food & liquid intake haven't changed either.

8 mile jog for me today, nice and easy 7.57 pace im not doing anything quicker until gnr now just going to ease down, apart from a long run sunday night once im back from the weekend away, I go through stages like that @Daydream Believer its nowt to worry about in a few runs time you will be back to normal

Back running after 3 week lay off due to C2C Ultra injury......4 X 6.4 miles then a 13.4 miler last night over last 5 days with no reaction from injury...Happy days

Had the same problem a few weeks ago, binned my shoes and got some new ones and have been champion since.

Haven't done that many miles in these shoes & they were only a couple of months old when I set consecutive parkrun PBs a month ago. I've got a feeling its more to do with being on permanent night shift. Never done it before but everything I'm reading points to it playing havoc with the body. :(

Could be that then. I find I'm always a bit more tired and sluggish when I'm on nights like.

Does anybody here struggle with early morning runs?

I just can not get going and wondered if there was any secret to doing them, I usually run on a lunch time and feel much better than a morning. I will be starting training soon for my first ever marathon and with time contraints (i.e. wife and 2 kids) I would like to make my weekend long run an early morning one.

I used to run first thing regularly, but I really struggle these days. My main issue is food/hydration - first thing on a morning I will usually have a pint of water/juice and some breakfast which I wouldn't if I was heading out for a run straight away, but then I just feel hungry and thirsty immediately during the run, and a bit sluggish.

I find I do much better if I eat/drink something, wait a couple of hours then go for a run, but that eats into the day and comes with the added issue of being able to talk myself out of not bothering.

I've got loads on tomorrow so could really do with going out as soon as I wake up. Might give it a bash and see how I get on.

I've always found running first thing is best for me due to the time issue. If I'm gonna do 10-20 miles is much easier getting up and back so it doesn't cut too much into my day. I get straight up and out the door as soon as I wake up, no hanging round for food and drink. I don't know if it'd be any good for you but because of my ultra running I regularly run with a camelbak now meaning I've got a supply of water and gels/food for my run. I sometimes start off a bit sluggish but just take it really easy for the first few miles and then have a gel after about 20-30 mins which I find combinded with my body waking up sorts me out and I'm fine from then on.

Early mornings are my favourite time because I can just get in the zone & not have to dodge pedestrians, bus queues, streams of cars at junctions I need to cross etc.

Try taking a gel with some water as you get up & take some water to sip out with you.

Aye, I do quite often take water with me when I run anyway (so I can have a drink immediately afterwards because I often finish somewhere random and get the bus back). I don't particularly like actually sipping any of it until after about 30+ minutes though as I always end up with a stitch.

I enjoyed my run tonight but it looks like a bloke with his cock out:

15k in 60 mins exactly this morning pushing my son in the buggy. Was blowing very hard by the end!

Should get another long run in tomorrow around the 20 mile mark and that will make for a good weekend.

Enjoy tomorrow Rat, I'll be struggling up that last evil hill hopefully at around 70 mins, looking foward to those silly school seats and the jelly..

Don't mind that last hill, it's the one out of corbridge that bothers me. My kids are coming to watch so I won't see my jelly this year :)
There's a west wind forecast tomorrow which should help

Good luck
