Big club bias

Look at the game we actually won, Wales. It was like a Premier League game - high energy, end to end, direct, the way England should play. Then look at all the other matches we didn't win, typical boring England Internationals - slow , lacking any urgency, a more patient build up.

We should play like Leicester - two up front with two wingers, two hard working midfielders and a take-no-shit defence.

It's f***ing obvious.

Hallelujah. Been saying this for years. Play the traditional English way. We would do so much better.

We try to do a Spain etc, it's not, and never will be, our way.

I'm not defending Hodgson here...

But surely this contradicts the other argument that he doesn't know his best team?

People complain that he doesn't know his best team or have a settled formation but then want to chop and change whenever anybody hits a run of form for their club. You can't have both, if you're trying to build a team over two years you can't rip it all up just because a donkey like Carroll who has been permanently injured for years scores a couple at the end of the season.

Granted he did neither, but that's not the point. People harp on about copying Germany but they don't necessarily pick players on club form

Mark Noble wouldn't have made any difference whatsoever

That Donkey is what we needed, something different, some one who would have fought the two centre half's, not fanny about on the edge of the box doing now't...Plus whats the point picking players out of form and not playing regular for their club team, it doesn't even make sense...

Your missing the point. Sunderland work under finacial restrictions to aquire players and managers coaching staff ect. England are supposedly fielding the Eleven best Englishmen in the country with a none too cheap manager and coaching team.
Sunderland would have shown a lot more heart under Sam playing against Iceland. A stronger word for pathetic needs to be invented because it's just not descriptive enough for England!

I don't believe heart had anything to do with it. I called it around the 70 minute mark that we had lost all hope. Confidence and belief was drained from every single player. With every chance, you could see the pain as the players just knew what was coming. Did the players want to win? Of course. Did anyone of them think we could win after 70 minutes of huffing and puffing? Not a chance. That stems from a total and utter lack of leadership and bravery from the management.

I think some of the problem was that Chelsea seem to have broken much of the Spurs contingent in that game at Stamford Bridge when they just lost it, and the title. They never seemed to recover, their form went to shit and they ended up third. I think there is still a hangover from this, particularly with Harry Kane. Just a theory like...

Maybe he was, maybe he wasn't, but the problem for years was shoehorning players in without building a team. How can you build a team if you're ripping it up and starting again every game?

International football is no different to club football, if your players are poor and out of form you will struggle...

And play Rashford left midfield
And play Sturridge right midfield
And play our record goal scorer in midfield
And play Gary Cahill upfront before any of these.

And kill the balance of the team at half time by playing 2 very similar players in Alli and Wilshire together, just like we did with Gerrard and Lampard for 10 years.

His selections in the last 6 weeks have been staggering. Rooney has scored about a dozen goals for England in the last 2 years. He's been in great form for his country, he gets injured for a bit then suddenly he's a midfielder

And keeps a proper midfielder out of the side.

He's a nice bloke Roy, but his resignation was the most predictable thing of the entire tournament. The players he has available are way better than they have shown and his tactics and squad selection have held the team back.

Enjoy your retirement Roy, but sadly your England reign is 'up there' with Taylor, Hoddle and Maclaren and that's what you will be remembered for now.

Don't disagree, you said he knew who he was taking before the tournament - that's the reason why. Club football form isn't the be all and end all. Look at Kane and Alli

He was ridiculed for taking Lambert as a different option in 2014 after he had a great season

I haven't got an issue regarding taking players who have played well but then for what ever reason it doesn't work (that's football) However taking the likes of Wiltshire who had not even kicked a ball for over a year is just plain stupid...

That team of young uns who beat Germany gave us a tantalising glimpse of what might have been. But said at the time that come the Euros, all the old guard will back and we will be back to square one with Rooney getting in the way and the likes of Jack Wilshire getting shoehorned back in the team.

Noble!!

Well I guess Geoff Thomas would be happy, he'd no longer be the worst midfielder in our history

Typical of the narrow minded attitude which holds England back.

"Noble? From West Ham? Gary Neville and Thierry Henry have never mentioned him being great!"

Not who he should have taken, he should not have started Ali, Sterling or sturridge.

And should have brought on llana, vardy at half time.

Vardy is an out and out sniffer of goals, Llana has been our most creative player all tournament (not saying much admittedly) - playing a winger formation, with no wingers and no one that can cross a ball (or anyone that can head it either). No wonder we didn't score many goals

I've seen him play many times pal. He's a good player.

International class? You're smoking crack.

What is international class? It's the same sport as is played every week in the Premier League. Those who do that best at any given time are the most "international class".
