George Best

Doesn't change the fact he denied somebody else a lifeline and destroyed another liver.

Good footballer or not he was still a dickhead.

When he was drunk he was a dick head, when he wasn't he was a nice guy.
Ultimately though he is the best footballer the British isles have ever produced and every boy my age wanted to be him
Total all round genius and some of his performances were just breathtaking in a day when football was a hard game

What a fantastic player he was, watched many a documentary on him. Some class stories from senior players about when he was 15 and megging the then Man Utd 1st team keeper in training etc

People would literally pay just to see him. I know he had Charlton and Law in his side but when Manchester United were in town thousands of people would go just to see him.
I used to go to Boro and Newcastle when they played Manchester United just to see him.

One of the last time I saw him play was when he and Rodney Marsh were at Fulham...good memories

It's frightening to think what he'd be like now, with modern training methods etc.
Apart from the fact you can't kick any fucker now.

Not very well probably, pissed the night before usually. Used to go to bed with an opened bottle of wine beside the bed in case he woke and needed a top up.

Hugely gifted player though, on the deck and in the air, and would work his socks off when younger

Legend is used too freely these days and all too easy to attain. George Best was the best footballer the world has ever seen. Only an opinion mind.

I think he would. He performed magnificently despite the drink. I think managers today might even turn a blind eye for such talent. I only saw him in the 70s but fortunately loads of archived stuff out there. A true GENIUS. The best British player ever?

He was obviously magnificent, but there's no way he could have been a heavy boozer and all that comes with it and had the same impact in today's game. Not with the necessity of the fitness levels.
