I reckon the wages we chucked at Wickham with his latest contract were with a view to selling him this summer. Would have been a free agent otherwise so we needed to give him a deal he'd sign. Smart move by the club.

Not really tbh. Didn't west ham offer £5 or £6 Million? Since then he would of got a fee for extending his contract, agent would of been paid and he has had £3 Million in wages. Bit of a panic / over reaction to Colback situation and ended up having to offer same wages to Defoe. Didn't mind him signing a new deal, but those wages for what he has done was a poor decision by the club imho.

Hopefully there's a sell on clause, can see him doing well and moving on to bigger things.

Our only attacking player with any selling value so although I'd have preferred to pedal graham or fletcher, at least we've got some cash in and freed up some wages for some much needed improvements.
No way I would pedal those two bikes.

We would still have received compensation, and I'm pretty sure @the streaker kept quoting a figure higher than what we have just received. Therefore if anything those wages could have been a hindrance in us getting shot of him. So not a smart move going off that.
What I quoted was what happened when the only really comparable free agent ( sturridge) moved from City to Chelsea and he in the end cost them £8.3 million I think with the final bit of being the sell on when Liverpool bought him........

Obviously we will never know but Wickham would have been older and played more games and scored more goals than Sturridge had when he moved.......

As said by a few I think he will do OK, however still very happy with this. If we can get Fletcher and Graham out the door as well it will be the best transfer window for a long time.

Why do you put loads of full stops in your posts Streaks lad?

Without a doubt. Would we not have got anything from Bosmam though or is he to old for that?

People acting like their happy need to have a long look at themselves, proves how lowdown the food chain we are when palace can poach our best players.

And for everyone saying he isnt worth 9m etc, he is cause they payed it. How many of our other players would command that sort of fee? Very few.

So as we stand at the moment this transfer window our net spend is NIL or as near as damn it !! Wheres the millions from the TV deals; the millions from the pop concerts and the supposed war chest !! Never mind though we are trying to push through 2 loan deals. Its pathetic man !!

Didn't want to see him leave. Let's hope we have something lined up and get it sorted quickly.
Dont hold your breath mate - and the season starts in a few days time !!

agreed, but we can't release either of them without either buying somebody first or at least having a nigh on certainty lined up.

Selling for a young player for £6m rising to £9m after buying him for £8m rising to £13m.
This despite him being a young English player with many years left on his contract. He did as well as you'd expect a young striker playing out of position on the wing.

Congerton hasn't been great during his time here like
