Bit of a panic / over reaction to Colback situation and ended up having to offer same wages to Defoe. Didn't mind him signing a new deal, but those wages for what he has done was a poor decision by the club imho.

Think we have sold him cheap going by recent prices but hopefully we can get better in.

What I quoted was what happened when the only really comparable free agent ( sturridge) moved from City to Chelsea and he in the end cost them £8.3 million I think with the final bit of being the sell on when Liverpool bought him........
Obviously we will never know but Wickham would have been older and played more games and scored more goals than Sturridge had when he moved.......
