Only been running for two weeks after over 2 months out and it's really tough, tried to do a tempo run the other night at 7:20 pace and could only manage two miles at that pace before I slowed down.

Anyone doing the Gateshead Trail 10k in August?

Far too hot today, 28 degrees according to my car when I got in. I cheated and did my prescribed 5 mile run on the treadmill at the gym. With the aircon going, it was like walking into a fridge and there was hardly anyone there. Pretty tedious running for that long though. In my head I was trying to picture where I would be on my regular 5 mile circuit.

Felt fine with it, so time to up my mileage to 6.5 miles.

Probably. Sunderland are at home to Norwich.

aye me but i think im beyond help - could do with joining a proper club mind !
Harriers?

Thought i would drop with heat stroke and dehydration at Tynedale tonight.
Now it looks like I'm either going to drown or be electrocuted.
Damned weather !

Well done all completing a muggy and hot tynedale 10k tonight. I was 30secs off my best at 35.12, think most were though.

Well done to Dan too who managed a trot round without a number and unashamedly joined the pie queue at the end :D
Water in the middle and end too. Was a canny night

well done magic, another excellent time...
I suffered a bit in that heat, felt drained in the middle part of the race, was about a minute or more over what I wanted to finish in, never mind though, enjoyed the pie at the end .

Heats so difficult to move in, went for a walk and it took it out of me, so running later will be amusing, any tips for handling the heat? Just running as 11 ish on Sunday for the Great North 10k and wonder what I can do to combat the elements. Also with that run im running for Mind a charity that helps with mental illness, so any spreading of awareness or help on my Just Giving page would mean the world to me as it is a charity close to me. https://www.justgiving.com/JoshWilks

anybody recommend a good sports massage person in sunderland (apart from K.J as hard to get him weekends)...
dan - im sure some of your club use a Danielle at ashbrooke ?
my legs are like concrete and im walking like ive shit my pants

When you don't have a choice about the time of the run the 2 most important things are hydration & lowering your pace. You're going to sweat a lot more which takes fluid away from your blood plasma which in turn makes your blood less efficient at carrying oxygen to your muscles. You'll also lose electrolytes which aren't replaced by drinking water so you'll need an isotonic drink during & straight after the run.

Rightio thanks for that, I have isotonics chilling in my fridge as I thought about that. Thanks again :)

Decided to do nowt since Monday in prep for Hamsterley on Saturday. Would normally hoy a little 3 miler in with two days to go but been a long warm tiring week stuck in a baking hot factory so just decided to have 4 full days of doing no running whatsoever before my 18.5 mile adventure

About 10 of us from the club going though on Saturday then we are having our summer social on the night with about 15 going to that so looking forward to the whole day. Should be good crack

Have a look at electrolyte tabs, cheaper.

Got some High 5 Zero ones, but he doesn't like the taste of them!

Been out and done 1.6 miles and it was really hard going. You know when you open the oven door and get a blast of heat in your face? It felt like that all the time but not as hot obviously.

1st run since before the pieces of 8 I haven't had any calf pain tonight. The pain from going over & over the knot with a softball & foam roller would seem to have been worth it.

I'm not a fan either. I just mix my own isotonic drink from coconut water, orange juice, grapefruit juice, lemon juice, lime juice & a large pinch of ordinary table salt & a couple of large pinches of LO Salt. Tastes great & without all the additives in the commercial stuff.
