Tbf to the Mags if we were the smaller club and kept getting battered by our local rivals I'd want them to go down too. A club like Newcastle has done well to battle as bravely as they have this season, if they go down well it's been coming for a few years now.

Sort of sentiment that was common back in my dad's day. Sadly that attitude has long gone.

Most of that in football is, I suspect, part of the John Hall/Geordie Nation silliness stuff inspired by the likes of Sky in which everything must be a controversy in order to sell every aspect of the game.
