Running Thread 2015

Right lads and lasses. From November till around two weeks ago, I had literally ran no more than 40km. Two weeks ago I signed up for the Sunderland HM. I've put on nigh on a stone over the winter due to being ill, change of career, just generally being too busy to train (laying floors and refitting the kitchen on me own!)

Anyway over the last two weeks I've managed to regain some of my stamina and am actually looking forward to the race. Did the pieces of eight Penshaw route non stop on Sunday and didn't feel too bad. I'm under no illusions that this is going to be the hardest and slowest HM I've done and I'll be happy to finish in less than 2.5 hours.

Anyway, I've not posted on this thread for a while so hopefully I'm back and feeling motivated again!
Thought you'd just signed up for the 10k, didn't realise it was the half . . daft sod! Good luck though, tempted to do the 10k but raced a lot recently. Will come and watch if not

Nah man, HM all the way. Reckon I'll do it like. Been running half the distance no bother so should be able to get around the course!

I'm panicking like mad about the Sunderland 10k, haven't ran in months & I'm a slow plodder at the best of times. Getting myself out to a park run in the morning to try & get my motivation going again.

Me too! I only started running again 4 weeks ago, and the furthest I've ran so far is just under 5K. I'm going to try and run a bit further in the morning and see how I go.

When do people eat for early morning runs? I usually have a meal around 5.30-6pm, then I don't eat anything else as evening eating makes my Crohns symptoms play up. On weekends, I'm getting up around 7am and having a glass of water then going straight out running. Is it ok running after 12+ hours without food, or should I be having a protein shake before bed or something before I go out?

Cup of coffee, pro plus and chocolate bar is what I have before an early morning run. I don't often do it though as i always end up needing a crap after 6 miles

That's one of my main worries about having a coffee beforehand

You still doing Edinburgh ?

Aye, thate why I've signed up to Sunderland. Just want to get Sunderland done as a build up to Edinburgh.

I tend not to have anything before going out on a morning as it doesn't sit well. If I do have anything it's usually something high in energy or sugar. Always found that a handful of salted peanuts does wonders. Must be something to do with high energy and salt.

Anyone doing sand dancer on Sunday ? One of my favourite runs
I'm not doing it but if I'm not grafting I'm going to pop down and cheer a few of my mates that are doing it from shields harriers, I've never done this race but might give it a crack next year as it just don't fit into my plans at the moment

That's why I leave it an hour after I get up, but obviously that's not always an option for everyone. Cup of coffee and a bowl of muesli, let it percolate, then off I pop.

I would have if I never have London.

Morning runs, I tend to have water and a bag of haribo, the small multi pack size. I prefer to sleep rather than get up and prepare myself. I tend to eat quite late anyway, 8pm and after so generally I'm not hungry.

If I can be bothered I'll try for 5k in the morning, then do the Penshaw run again on Sunday morning. My bairns 3rd birthday party tomorrow, need to do something to counter all the crap I'll eat!

That's what I think all the time, especially if I'm boozing. Hard run before the fun.

Even if I don't go before the party I'll have to go afterwards. Very conscientious that I'm going into theSunderland HM in a very poor position so have to do something!

Had thought about it but did blyth last week, tempted still especially in this nice weather but prob spread the races out bit more or may end up breakdown again.
Was out with lads last night for few but still dragged my arse out this morning, tried 1mile steady then a few efforts (fartkek??) thrown in, 7mile by time got home, beer was pissing out of me .
Suppose to be Back on it this afternoon thru Newcastle, this is why I'll never make a proper club runner !
On subject of brekkies- coffee and bagel with jam for me. Magic must be buzzin off his tits at the start line
