You play your best players always until they are no longer your best players. He is still one of our best players.

What has he done in the last year to show he's still got it?
He's reluctant to play at County level and more arsed about making a big pay packet from the Big Bash and
IPL.
English cricket needs to start over, like the Aussies did after 2007.
Aye, that's at 20/20 though.2nd top scorer in the big bash, 3 50's from 8 knocks. Average nudging 42 with a strike rate of 122.
In a tournament with surfaces so dry and flat they would make the groundsman at Taunton cringe.2nd top scorer in the big bash, 3 50's from 8 knocks. Average nudging 42 with a strike rate of 122.
As much as I'd like to see KP back, realistically we need to build for the next world cup starting right after this one ends. That will mean the end for Bell, Anderson and Broad and no way back for KP.
It's good that KP's profile has been kept in the media to piss off Downton but hopefully England will move on without the old guard and start blooding the new.

As i've said before, if he got his pads on for a county and scored the runs in all formats i'd be up for him being re-selected but he isn't prepared to do that so he can fuck off.
English cricket needs to start over said:True even if it means a few years of poorer results we should be looking forward not back. I think Cricket fans can take seeing defeats if there's some future in the team they're supporting. I'd love to see a few experimental picks in the WI tour.
Aye, that's at 20/20 though.
He's shown no thirst to play at any other level.
Cricket is cricket - it's not like he's untried at test level and is a 20/20 specialist. He's England's best player and he's in form.

What's the point in bringing him back in. He's totally divisive in the dressing room and would be used for a maximum of 2 years.
He also failed miserably in the last two ashes series. He averaged 29 in Australia.
He failed to show anything playing domestic cricket last year.
No - IS, and is by a mile.
I don't give a shit how he is in the dressing room. This is not a social team, it's international sport. He's our best player and we need him to play.
He averaged 29 in Australia which is poor by his standards, but you've failed to mention that he was still England's top run scorer in the series. By your logic they should all be dropped and we should just not bother fielding a side.
How can KP being a cock in the dressing room make Anderson and Broad bowl poorly or Bell and root play poor shots? Is, based on what? His Big Bash appearances?
So what your saying is, team work counts for nothing? One big ego that could potentially be hugely divisive, is something that should be ignored? He chose to write his book and turn his back on the day to day county cricket.
Yes, they were all poor in that series, Pietersen being the best run scorer of a bad bunch. Bare in mind the next two were Carberry and Stokes, the latter played on three of the five tests.

Cricket is a team game but it's very much played on a one on one basis. KP was a nice easy scapegoat for a side who just weren't performing.
People need to stop looking for excuses and be accountable for their own performances.
KP should still be playing all formats for England.
