Had a right chinwag earlier with me fatha regarding the dying of pubs and clubs. Namely the WMC.

No prizes for guessing where I'm from - and round out way there were 4 WMC's within a couple of miles on top of 9/10 other pubs only a decade or so ago.

Now there's 2 WMC's and 3 other pubs. People just aren't going out for a few pints anymore and there's no sense of community round our way either IMO.

Crying shame like but just the way it's going.

Anyone care to add their opinions as to why??

Wouldn't be surprised if in the next decade (as like the last) there's a similar number of losses which could mean we've got nowt left by 2025.

Cost

A pint out is significantly more expensive than a can in the house

Still a canny few in washington, biddick a cracking club, westwood decent......and most of the pubs have survived.

Times have changed and both parents in a couple tend to be working now

More choice of things to do, be in better tele, games consoles

Families tend to loaded more with debt so not enough spare money

It used to be a rite of passage for young lads, as their dads got them their club cards. I used to play the odd game of snooker in Browney and Langley Moor klerbs. Never set foot in Brandon (or Sawmills) though, even though I'm from there anarl. I used to love the odd bottle of High Level.

Never liked the workingmens clubs but still gan to town twice a week.
Two pund a pint so nee complaints.

Can imagine current drinking trends between those 18-30 don't help.

When I was in that demographic we would always pop into a WMC for a couple of cheap pints etc early in the night.

These days its a case of a crate of fosters, alcopops & a bottle of glens vodka between half a dozen of them, sit in your mates dads flat 'til 11pm then go out for a few hours with a tenner apeice & a bag of ground paracetamol thinking you are top boy.

Sawmills club thats going back a bit mind. It was the mill by the time I started going Davey.Brandon was past it even then, the big old one at the back of cemmercial street, but the football club was canny enough. Browney was alright but i never went in langley moor even though it was just out the back of home
