Gus Poyet blames under-strength squad for Black Cats' struggles

The Mail shit-stirring after a great gesture by the club and players. There's a surprise. Which mag on their staff wrote this anti safc piece?

Glad to see our amazing supporters on here love it though. Moaning cunnts.

You said a few days ago the lad who heard these quotes on Radio Newcastle was a liar and now you dispute the authenticity of the Poyet quotes from the Mail? Give it up mate.

Some people can just never admit they were wrong...

No surprise at who the writer is here. Kinnear was right about Simon Bird. Any chance to stick the knife in to SAFC and he'll take it.

That said, Gus does seem to distance himself from any blame and it's a shame that his frustrations cant be kept in house. What are outbursts like this going to say to the players? How do you then motivate them and build up their confidence? I know he's not talking about ability in his quote, it's more focused at the number of players he's been left with. Perhaps if he made more of an effort to work WITH Congerton, they may be able to have a clear and agreed view on their goals going forward and achieve them with more success.

I didn't even have to open it to know it would have been from one of their resident mag writers.

Total muck raking article to overshadow the players giving paying supporters back.

Hmm, not liking what I'm reading in that article. This shit should be kept indoors....

He isn't in charge of transfers though. Congerton is.
Well his pining for Borini right until the death all but tied Congerton's hands in our quest for a left sided player. And is he really trying to pass the buck for Vergini and Buckley (who were at fault for the first two goals) on to Congerton too?

That's bollocks. I never called him a liar at all. I commented that at the time only he had heard it and two others had said the context was different.......yet everyone chose to believe him anyway.

More a comment on our embarrassing turn coat supporters who have taken up residence on here.

He's complaining about not having enough players, not the ones we signed.

For years now we've never had more than 2 or so players who most of us could agree should start every match, and for years we've sold our best players to fund purchases of slightly worse players. It's as if the club is trying to find the minimum baseline cost for staying in the Prem. There is no ambition beyond that from what I can see. I think rather than trying to lay the blame on Congerton, Poyet is simply stating that with the funds and wage structure we have, there's a limited amount that can be done in terms of squad depth, and we will certainly never rise much above our current status because of this.

You must fully-expect the club's lawyers to be in touch with both The Mail and Mirror and an apology to appear shortly then?

Hes starting to annoy me like, ive said it before i will say it again i like him hes done a good job but fuck me he makes steve bruce look like a self critique. Teflon gus, we could all see the squad wasnt good enough, shorts fucked him and conger over giving them around £15m to put right losing 16 players from a squad that barely was good enough last season and the season before. Short doesnt want to spend any more of his own coin, hes rolled the dice yet again that we can stay up on the back of making our own funds. Gus shouldve just said straight that it wasnt good enough from the start.

No, the quotes are probably not made up. They are however spun for maximum negative effect and timed to undermine the positive pr of the refund/charity donation.

As his remarks were in a direcet response from an 8-0 drubbing I tend to loosly translate it as "its not my fault they're not good enough, I didn't buy the fuckers". But I might be wrong, he may well be complaing about the lack of depth in the squad.

Im normally the one that wears the tin foil when it comes to media on us, however those quote require very very little spinning they are pretty straight forward.

What do we lack quality for? We don't lack the quality to avoid being beaten 8-0. I'd have a bit more sympathy if he hadn't wasted a good chunk of the money on players who haven't inproved us.

but that's true for just about 75% of the league. Most clubs in the middle/bottom tier of the league sell their best players and have limited transfer and wage budgets. Most have limited squads, I reckon every manager in the league would like a couple more players if you asked them.
To trawl it out after an 8-0 defeat looks like self preservation and blame shifting.
Would be interested to see his reaction if congerton was appearing in the press after defeats having sly digs at poyet.

God help us if our manager is blaming the strength of the squad at this point in the season. sounds a bit like he is throwing in the towel

So you think our squad is good enough?

We are lacking serious quality. I said this throughout the summer. IIRC you disagreed and regularly had a go at me.

The squad does have quality though... Everything was fine until last Saturdays freak capitulation!

This. It's no good him moaning now about it. Mind you, his pathetic, stubborn pursuit of Borini didn't help matters.
