I was maxed out on DLs for ages and always felt it was my grip holding me back, I do use a mixed grip ( have done since I started Stronglifts) but have found the liquid chalk to be a god send.
I broke through my plateau first time I used it! I'm now stuck again but it's not my grip, it's definitely back strength and bottle!

My grip / forearm strength is rubbish due to my girls hands / wrists, would you recommend deloading and working back up with double overhand ?

Do you do 5x5 at the same intensity or work up to a top set? If you really need to work on it then add in some assistance work for your grip.

I work up on Deadlifts - e.g today was 5x85 / 5x102.5 / 5x117.5 / 3x132.5 (missed 2 reps)

Like I said though I've always used mixed grip since my very first DL so I've no idea how much I'd lose by trying both overhand?
I didn't miss my reps through grip today though the chalk has really helped.

If you work up and do all but the last set double overhand you should be fine. Your grip should be helped by BORs though.

BTW, your grip will generally fail before your back, that's not unusual. That's why some people use straps.

Don't let grip limit your progression. As I say, unless you're planning on having a good raw deadlift for a competition, use chalk or even straps if necessary.

You can go completely raw on some work up sets and then do some grip exercises desperately.

Also not using touch and go reps on deadlifts helps maintain grip better through a set, but Jacksnuts resets between each rep iirc

Cheers I'll give it a go next DL session

Gonna hold off using straps until I really feel I need to!

Yes I reset, which has probably been sparked subconciously from ensuring my grip is set before lifting

Good stuff. I'm not a fan of touch and go deads unless pretty advanced. I still never do them though as I don't feel I can maintain form well enough (never videos myself like).

I always reset after every rep on heavy deadlifts as its the lift I'm most concerned about formwise.
This for me too, I'm totally paranoid about form. Always have to make sure my head is up and back straight before each rep.

Pretty sure doing bicep curls with your wrist bent toward your bicep helps develop massive five arms and grip strength like. But you will be sacrificing Arnold-esque bicep peaks by doing that.

Fuckin hell Ive never had Arold esque biceps anyway! Fuck me forearms how dya get those

I was being a bit facetious

My point was that doing strict curls with the wrist straight engages the biceps more and builds a bigger peak whereas having a bend in the wrist engages the forearm and gives you greater grip strength.

Considering doing a thread on squatting and it's performance benefits (specifically football), if anybody would be interested?

Would be fairly lengthy, but I'd try and keep the overly-scientific lingo to a minimum.

In an industry that sells 'carb blockers' and 'myostatin inhibitors', I'm surprised nobody has attempted to sell bottled genetics mate

Hey, with the advent of CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing, if someone could ID a couple of single nucleotide polymorphisms that seem to be markers for elite level muscle synthesis then we aren't far off!
