Your three to go down right now.

Right now I’ll go for Burnley, Wolves & Leeds.

Us, Fulham, Brentford, Forest, West Ham & Man Utd also in the mix.

I’m feeling good about SAFC but we all know it can quickly change & that a bad run will hit us at some stage.

Stranger things happened, they had a decent (top 5 decent imo) squad when we first sent them down ending their long stay in the PL in 2009, despite playing out of their skin for Sheerah, while we were absolute crap. Our presence in the PL tend to make them nervous and could trigger a self destruct gene in them

Top 5? Is that supposed to be a joke? 🤣🤣🤣

Well, it started with selling Milner in the Summer, then Given and N'Zogbia in the Winter. Can't be bothered to look it up, but that's how I remember, we were massive underdogs and I didn't feel comfortable playing them at all. 🤷‍♂️

Wolves, Leeds, Burnley. But I think it will be extremely close this year even with our good start - that’s why I’m still bothered about reinildo’s stupid red card costing us possible two points - no margin for error.

Paddypower odds currently have us finishing 17th and Leeds 16th, with Burnley, Wolves, and West Ham going down. I don't get the Leeds love in tbh, we're better than them imo. Certainly wouldn't swap our squad, manager, or results for theirs.

I'm willing to say this season will set a record for the most points obtained by the team in 18th place, so we will be in the mix until the very last day. 11 points seems like a lot, but it's probably only a quarter of what we need to say up and I will eat a hat on live TV if we have more than 19 points by January 4. We have a very hard run ahead of us.

Bookmarking and I hope we can choose the hat

It doesn't really work like that. The three coming up being more competitive doesn't mean a higher points total to finish 17th, because a lot of points that would be taken off poor-standard promoted sides get spread around, and the table pulled closer together.

Last time all 3 promoted clubs staged up for example (22/23), Everton finished 17th that year, only 2 points clear of relegation, but only had 36 points. Last year Spurs finished 17th and miles clear of 18th, and had 38 points. So it would have required fewer points to finish 17th in 22/23 than last year.

It depends how competitive and close the league is in general as well. Last few years the relegation slots have easily filled themselves without much danger. This year, a lot of teams are going to get dragged into a dogfight I think.

We’ll have 17 by October 18th man

No way we go down. I’ve seen relegation sides this. Is not one. Too much fight!

The 96/97 team had loads of fight, defensive resilience and organisation too but take your point.

I think we’ve got a real fighting chance of staying up. If we pick something up next week it’d be astonishingly good position to be going into the second international break.

If there’s one minor concern that makes me think it’s not cut and dry to stay up, it’s the chance creation. I think another player or two in January in the attacking department (a big ask given the superb summer recruitment) will go a long way to allaying that minor concern. Brobbey could of course still come in and make us look a different animal going forward.
