Your striker issue

I think TS is correct.

The mags get bigger crowds than us because they have a far larger population base:

All of Northumberland, Newcastle, North Tyneside and Gateshead, plus

Most of County Durham and
at least half of South Tyneside

The mags also get a fair chunk of Darlington

Sunderland gets Sunderland and about a third of County Durham, plus a fair whack of Hartlepool

Boro get whatever is left whilst fighting Leeds for North Yorkshire
"Most of County Durham"? Haddawayandshite!

We are going to be making Josh Coburn available for a loan for the season. Something I think we shouldn’t do.

That being said he would easily be your best striker and would dwarf Mendy and ugbo in terms of quality.

Go get him Macks.
Jesus Fkn Christ. Yous will bottle the play offs this season anarl as your GK & defence are chod. Only question is, will you sell out the home game?

Well yeah, you have a bigger fanbase than us. It's hardly surprising when you compare the population size difference between Sunderland and Middlesbrough.

Higher numbers doesn't equate to better support though.

Catchment area and population is only one aspect.

The foundation for our large fanbase was laid over 100 years ago and carried on through to the mid 1900's,

'Team of all talents', 'World Champions', 'Bank of England club'....it will be hard for many to believe these days but Sunderland have had spells where they dominated English football and it has carried on through the generations even though performances on the pitch took a nose dive.

Middlesbrough never had that level of success and have performed better in more recent decades here and there.

Agree with that

I don't know - why would you lie about that?.
You stated that half our stadium was empty.
Now, seeing as it was a sell out I can only assume that you were telling lies.
It wouldn't be 'half empty' if all home tickets were sold.

Thing is though, we don't obsess about how many attend our matches.
There seems a really weird obsession on here about how large your attendances are, and the shootable offence of leaving the ground before full time

Talk about using 'facts' for your own ends.

2024 population
Middlesbrough 156,161
Sunderland 288,606.

Population of Sunderland is almost TWICE that of Middlesbrough.
Ah......the old Boro classic of using the population of the town of Middlesborough to justify their attendance, ignoring Stockton, Hartlepool, Darlington, Redcar and the rest of the Tees Valley. All of these have a Boro support well in the majority.

Tees Valley population in the 2021 Census is 678,200. That's not counting North Yorkshire.

Population of Sunderland is 288,000 including Washington, Hetton, Houghton. Yes, we draw from other areas but not huge percentages from areas with a combined population of 400,000 higher.

Conveniently 'forgetting' County Durham which has a population of over half a million, Seaham 22,000 and South Shields 75,000.

'Most of Co Durham' is quite an extraordinary reach mind. It's certainly split, but I've no idea how you got there.

Based on the calculations of @Frijj there must be 100,000 mags locked out every game. I sometimes travel to games from Central Station and the Metro is already quite full with Sunderland supporters before picking up more all along the route.

I’d say County Durham is about 60/40 in their favour, maybe 65/35 but that might be a reach actually. I assume you think Sunderland fans outnumber them? I don’t think it’s “extraordinary” to say County Durham has more Newcastle fans than Sunderland fans.

I think you may have misunderstood what I’m saying here like. I have posted my views on this before, and even got on that “Deluded World” for saying it.

The conclusion of my argument is that the mags have a greater population base than us, yet as a % of our “possible support” we get more through the door than they do.

Hadawayandshite! 70:30 in our favour I'd say.
