Your season

I was hoping we would stay up. After xhaka signed I thought we had a decent chance at doing that.

We’ve got better results than our performances for much of the season - great that we have so many points from losing positions but that also means we went behind a lot. so I agree that staying up next season will be a challenge again. But if we keep hold of the majority of this seasons squad and add 3-4 bits of quality there’s also no reason we can’t make a run at a European spot. This league is so tight , fine margins …

I think you guys have had a great season. Avoided the first season relegation comfortably.

I think you will finish 11th 12th which is fantastic for your first season.

What were you hoping for at the start of the season?

TBH, was hoping to do better than Derby's record low, and 17th as an unrealistic dream result.
(All this before the summer transfer business).

I thought we'd go straight back down - my hope was that we'd go down fighting and end the season still pretty positive about the management and core squad.

Apart from Wolves and Burnley, the rest of us from 11th down are much the same, so we've probably overachieved to reach 40 points so soon. Next season might be more difficult, unless we get 3-4 decent additions

Been a cracking season. Both times the bairn has seen us promoted I've told him it'll be a hard season ahead, won't see so many wins etc., then the club have shown me right up.

On the eve of the season I expected a real struggle & would have taken 17th on goal difference in a heartbeat if offered.

After matchday 3 (Brentford at home) I thought we’d be ok.

17th and a result against the mags, whether that’s was a win or a draw. Think most people would have hoped for similar. What we got was way above that, it’s been a cracking season.

Not to be relegated and build from there, first objective achieved, let’s see what next season brings.

Out of interest, why do you reckon it’ll be harder?

I think the three promoted teams (I’ll wait to see who they are obviously) will struggle to match Leeds and us. If it’s Millwall or Boro they might even struggle to match Burnley.

West Ham will be a mess again if they stay up. The mags look in turmoil right now. Then you potentially have several of Palace, Forest (with that owner), Leeds, Everton, Brighton, Fulham, Bournemouth and Brentford in European football.

Not saying we won’t be down there of course, but I’m not sure that the league looks that much stronger like?
If west ham stay up their manager will sort them out, a good manager papers over the cracks. Personally I think the 3 promoted teams drop down

Points wise Coventry aren't a million miles away from Leeds / Burnley last season. They could emulate either of them.

Quite a big drop after that. I honestly don't think the Ipswich manager will learn. He's a my way of the highway type and his style won't work in the Premier League. As we've proved you have to build from the back. He thinks he can play football and attack.

I suppose a team could replicate what we've done but they don't really seem to have the set up we've had. I've said it before, teams could do a lot worse than employ Speakman and Stuart Harvey.
