Ageing trundler

Withdrawal symptoms kicking in already as I pack my gear away into the loft until the new year, to open it up and faint from the horrible stink that emerges. So your thoughts on the season for both your club and league. For Spennymoor CC its been a strange old year and for the D&DL, a familiar tale of battling against dwindling participation. At Spenny, we continue to grow, the 1sts achieving promotion and the 2nds completing a full season, having reformed after a 15 year hiatus. The clubhouse fire has been well documented and we face a winter of fundraising and hopefully building a new one for the start of 2019. Reduced participation across the 3 divisions has resulted in fewer 'poor' sides actually playing and this has put a strain on our 2nds team as the games we have played were against sides at the top of our league. Merely sustaining 2 teams is a real battle. Leagues have to react to this, I would suggest the various AGMs need to produce some ideas to stem the tide.
 

Had my best season ever. 5 runs shy of 400 for the season. At one stage it looked like I would only play half the games I did so that’s a good thing. Our 2s won the durham cricket league 2nd division and our 1s finished runner up so promotion next year. Our Sunday teams got to finals days but lost so all in all a great season.

Time now to get the sander out and give my bat a refurb ready for next year(something I’m looking to do as a side hobby).

Possibly looking to make some bats up from scratch as well so at least Ive got something cricket related to get my teeth into over the winter.
 
Frustrating as didn’t play enough. Lost too many games on a sunday to a combination of reasons.

Scored no runs (no change there) and whilst I kept tidily, I didn’t feel I improved
 
Only played 1 game. Belmont away. 0 not out with father at the other end in his last season. Couldn't have been better for my one game.

For Rainton, disappointing. Finished fourth off bottom, with a team that was capable of far far better.
Seconds did well considering they nearly folded at the start of the season. With a junior team and new pavilion over the winter. It's hopefully onwards from here.

Class, is that U11s?
 
Not up to my usual standards from a personal point of view. I wasn't very fit and had various niggles over the course of the season - need to shed some serious timber over the winter.

Although classing myself as a 2nd team cricketer, I was also in and out the 1st XI frequently. To the point where I actually played the same amount of games for both teams. Also I went without a home game from the beginning of June, until I eventually managed to get one at the back end of August! Finished with an average 29.31 so not terrible but definitely not up to my usual standards.

In terms of the club (Hunwick), we achieved our primary goal and that was to avoid relegation. Playing Win/Lose/Draw cricket was new to us so we were quite naive at the beginning of the season and ended up throwing away our wickets when our opposition got big scores instead of trying to get as many points from a losing draw.

In terms of the club overall - we're going from strength to strength - for the first time in our history we fielded junior teams across all 5 junior ages (U9's, U11's, U13's, U15's and U18's) which is an incredible feat for a "village" cricket team. We also had our first 100 scored from one of our juniors - the first since it was setup 7 years ago. He scored 106 not out in a 20/20.

Our facilities are also constantly improving and we've had a lot of positive feedback from clubs who visited us over the course of the season. Although no suprise to us - some were very suprised at what a good setup we have and our next addition over the winter will be a permanent garage structure. After that it's the big one - a brand new clubhouse.

And there's me telling anyone who will listen of my Herculean batting exploits this year (169@17)! Although people who have seen me bat will be choking on their coco pops at that.
 
693 runs & 18 wickets from 80 overs.

Happy as we went up as league winners but let ourselves down in both cup finals and finals day, would like to have bowled more.

Get fit over winter and go again next year, desperate for some Cricketing time off.

Each time i've been to Hunwick the ground has improved - the wicket was a road when we played there earlier in the season. nigh on 470 runs scored in 95 overs so it was a good one!!
 
Shit season on a personal level. Started well, averaging around 30 and recording my highest senior score, and also picked up a few wickets for not many. Didn't play another game after the first week in June through injury. :evil:

I played that day - very good game with 2 decent teams going at it.

That's why I was so annoyed that I went nearly 3 months without a home game - if I could roll up our wicket and take it everywhere with me I would!

I wouldnt have minded taking it home with me that day! - got my best score that day.
 
Good season for our seniors in their first season in NEPL, surprised a fair few including myself to finish 3rd, upteen weddings/stag dos this season had adverse effect on 2nds at times,3rds won their league
Personal level my u18 won both league (off last ball against sunderland)and league cup, taking them on tour end of last month and them playing at Scarborough and then on tv when look north cameras turned up at the other tour game against Folkton&Flixton(who won yesterdays national village cup final at Lords)
highlights of the season was one of my juniors(15yr) scoring 135 not out in 20/20 u18 semi final , i say 20/20 we batted for only 16.1 overs as we lost all their balls and 1 of mine, and the other lad (14yrs)who played for North of England side at the Bunbury trials last month
