Young lad tragically passed away

Jasper

Striker

17 year old boy just having a net with his mates has died after being hit on the neck by the ball. Absolutely awful news to wake up to.

My lads are just the same, in the nets with their mates all summer, using the side arm as they were here. Can't bear to think what the family are going through.

I’m already looking at getting a neck guard for his helmet.
Aye the bairns had the same one for a few seasons now but it doesnt have the Stem Guard on, think its time for a new one now anyway, but im surprised these havnt become mandatory, although heard a few reports that it wasnt the same place as Phil Hughes

ive thought this for years now, we must be a good 25 years since helmets for Juniors were mandatory, ive never got why kids play all their cricket in one then get to 18 and take it off, the old boys in the team arent going to think any less of you, you dont look cool just because your batting in a cap, dont care what age, what level, what the wicket does, helmets should be mandatory

Actually looks like it was

"Cricket Victoria chief executive officer Nick Cummins said it was an "extremely challenging time" for all involved.

"The ball hit him in the neck in a similar accident that Phil Hughes suffered 10 years ago," Mr Cummins said, according to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC)."
