Yorkshire v Durham : CC September 24

a few days away and just catching up, fortunately the wifi was so bad i couldnt really keep track, but seems the stream wasnt great either,

Not sure what has happened this season, i think were missing borthwicks captaincy at times, not sure Lees is up to it, Bowling is so Weak, its almost as if over the Winter they go ooh look, Stokes, Potts, Carse and Wood, thats a brilliant line up then panic last minute when they cant play

Club seems in a very strange position at the minute, might just be me but im losing a bit of interest, Bairns now not coming as much, would rather play club cricket now if theres a clash, weekends are usually spent watching club cricket too, probably get more enjoyment from that than having a day at the riverside
Wholly agree.I've given preference to Durham ever since we went 1st class but now realising my allegiance should be with my local club. Every time I passed my local club, South Shields, during the school holidays there were small aside games taking place supervised by other slightly older members-all voluntary. Senior sides comprised of local lads with one young overseas only getting any remuneration. I offer the club a small sponsorship in lieu of what was my county membership.
Back to Grassroots 😀 👍

Agree.Reconnecting to club cricket is a much better cricket experience and you will be made very welcome

Well Durham relegated. Obviously I stand behind everything I've said above and again I'll repeat myself about Mr North, never wanted him here, still don't want him here. Regarding Bostock, same applies with him, I've been critical of him for a long time and this is a man who called county members "Luddites", who was responsible for the student uni event farce and promised it wouldn't happen again... he lied and who ultimately oversaw the "we have consulted members" statement, and then weeks later was found out to be telling lies in front of us all at the members forum which was conveniently arranged AFTER the vote went in, again showing what he thinks of us members and also he was wanting the top ECB job not too long ago which he didn't get, again highlights he has no care or affiliation for Durham. A former director of the Leeds 16.4 which North was sniffing about with also, his priorities lie with 16.4 franchise cricket and he was hell bent on reducing the county game and ironically that hasn't been forgotten about on the county cricket facebook groups, clearly gambled on us "staying up" that way and it's back fired, incredibly arrogant outlook. He was also very rude and arrogant at said members forum which many on here will vouch for.

That incompetence and arrogance has found it's way all over the club and sadly now onto the pitch and we've paid the price.

Recruitment has been absolutely disgusting, said a lot on this and the Killeen situation still really annoys me. To give outsiders 3 year pro deals, and to basically toss away a Durham lad is unforgiveable. We are a club based on solid foundations/ethics of "looking after our own" and "bringing through our own" and that is a proud tradition of this club, and North/Bostock and to an extent Campbell have dismantled this. I've defended Campbell more than some on here have, but ultimately he has to take ownership of some selections which have been baffling. After the weak bottle job surrender today, I think it's only fair he is questioned, having only defended him the other day on here, that today is completely unacceptable and questions need to be asked. Back to recruitment, this is where I sort of have sympathy for Campbell, as North has brought some absolute dross to the club and he did last season at times, he needs to either be sacked or do the decent thing and resign along with Bostock. Sadly however neither will leave, they don't care about my opinion, nor of any members.

Mr Onions..... he's had a very easy ride this season but it's not gone unnoticed.... can anyone name anything positive he's brought to the table this year? Another one on thin ice and should be held accountable for this mess. It's not "bad luck" we have had so many injuries to bowlers this season and this and the physio/fitness teams all need to address this.

Mentality with the batting has been dire, a lot of piss poor shots, not understanding the game situation and basically just not producing. Gay has had 5 ducks this season, joint 2nd highest in the County Championship, that is beyond unacceptable, he has a lot to learn and he doesn't fill me with my confidence, must improve.

Looking at the batting averages it's not great is it?

Take away the early 2 scores by Ackermann, he will be struggling to average about 17-18 since the end of April? Rhodes, Robinson very poor overall, and Bedingham equally as poor and McKinney hasn't helped himself. Clark averaged 42 and scored 768 runs which I believe is a good effort. The rest have massively under performed and it's simply not good enough.

Bowling I've mentioned above, only Ben Raine anywhere near good enough, that lad is Durham through and through along with Clarky. 44 wickets @ 27 isn't a bad effort, he has never let us down and 26 with the bat is a good solid season, well done Ben.

The One Day Cup effort was unacceptable and whilst we made a T20 1/4 final, it was all just very meh.

I look back to that Somerset home game, it was a huge turning point. I didn't mind the Warwickshire home defeat I backed the lads with that one, but since Somerset in May it has been dire.

Captaincy must change, quietest field ever, questionable decisions game after game and it simply hasn't worked.

Ideally I want to see a clear out, I want to see a statement from the club, not just some brief YouTube video from Campbell and I want to see resignations. I appreciate it won't happen but I'm just sounding off because I'm pissed off after hard work to get back into division 1, we've neglected things and paid the price.

That was disgusting today though and it tells you so so much about the desire and mentality of a lot of these players and truth be told I'd not be arsed who leaves because today has told me so so much about them, they are very weak minded. Early season I was praising the effort/desire but it's quickly gone horribly wrong and many of us noticed it and mentioned it on here

For a club whose members sacrificed covid membership money, to be treated like this by those at the top is beyond disgusting and unforgiveable.

Comms at the club is rubbish it's gone massively backwards after Botham left the club a fairly close knit one, Bostock/Collins/North have absolutely destroyed that. Our media team couldn't even be arsed to report on the score after lunch, that about sums up the club really.

Worried for next season unless some leave and changes are made with playing staff.

A sad end to a very poor season.
If our team, Ben Raine apart ... had shown one tenth of the level of passion shown in your summing up ... we would still be a division one team.

What happened at Leeds was an absolute disgrace, with a bowling attack in the last 3 games that was ... not fit for purpose ... we could only ever rely on others to save us, thats how shambolic things had become.
.... and they did ,... 8 pt deductions, Essex weather, Surrey winning ... gees we couldnt have had more help !

That batting collapse needs explanation, with an article in print from the club that should be twice as long as GM no1 s thread.

... with a season on the line there is obvious pressure on the batters, but with a top 9 like ours you would, at the very worst expect the odd batter to last half an hour , get 10 or 15 and maybe one...possibly dare I dream ... two ... to bat for longer than the time it takes to boil a kettle !!!

.... were they even trying , had George Hill suddenly turned into Glen McGrath where seasoned pros couldnt survive more than one ball. Pressure is one thing, what we saw were players walking out to bat with a 'sod this, its not my fault stinking attitude' and as a member of 33 years I want answers ....

.... quite simply given the circumstances, the stakes ... and the free get out of jail card
this was one of the biggest embarrasments in cricket history. and a two minute you tube video doesnt cover it !!

..... over to you Mr Bostock !! ......

I think what happened is what often happens in cricket batting, a collapse in morale. I'm sure they didn't want what happened to happen but, they just couldn't stop it. We see similar time and time again. I've said it before and boring I know, but, the bowling not working eventually rebounds on the batting and one cannot compensate for the other.

God knows what they can do in the season break. Hopefully some of the academy lads mature quickly over the winter and Rhodes finds something, like pace, which is not apparent in his bowling so far.

I was hoping some kind of comment relating to our season would have been made on social media but there's been nothing.

Not a single word while Bostock and North keep their heads down.

There was the brief interview from Campbell but I'm not sure if there would be anything substantive yet anyway. I presume they'll need to make plans and then announce them. I hope they'll make plans anyway.

Deafening silence from Durham even a short statement saying that a full review etc etc will take place and findings reported on. Any outstanding prospects in the 2s who could lift the gloom.

We didnt see much of Minto this year for various reasons.

I have hopes for him making the step up to first teamer.

This is a perfectly understandable shout. What were the odds of Durham getting relegated at start of play yesterday?

None of the main UK bookies offered it in the week prior to the fixtures. AND, most bookies only offer ‘Draw No Bet’ for Championship fixtures so Yorkshire would’ve been massive favourites anyway.

What about other countries?

We didn't see much of Killeen despite him being one of our best bowlers on form.
